Marion Cotillard Takes Back Her Comments

Marion Cotillard

Yesterday we posted a story about Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and the comments she had made about 9/11.

Naturally, her comments have pissed off a lot of people so her “people” are doing some major damage control today.

Her lawyer is saying that her comments were "taken out of context."

In a statement released today her lawyer said, "Marion never intended to contest nor question the attacks of September 11, 2001, and regrets the way old remarks have been taken out of context."

Every time a celebrity screws up they use the “out of context” line. Just like when a couple divorces they “respect and love each other.” Soo predictable.

The french media recently republished her quote after her Oscar win, "I think we're lied to about a lot of things. It was a money-sucker because they were finished, it seems to me, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them." Her lawyer said, "This reportage has been taken out of context and one can only condemn such practices. Marion deplores that. She is currently filming in Chicago and has a lot of work. She is in an ocean of happiness and voila, this row blows up. It's rather strange. It's an old report, not at all current. Why bring it out now ? I talked three times to Marion overnight. This is worrying her. She is still in shock and does not really know how to react. She doesn't have to apologise for a badly presented and badly interpreted reportage." "She hopes that the Americans will have enough distance to understand, but her career is not just American. She can make films everywhere."

This is so sad. Americans really wanted to like this person. We were all so happy to see her win. That anyone can believe a theory this stupid, so geared to put Americans in the worst possible light can only be attributed to one of two things; a) she is retarded. I dont think so. b) she is just another in a long line of people, including a lot of Americans, who hate this country and want to believe the worst that can be dreamed up. No matter how impossible. Imagine if the situation was reversed and it was an American star making such an accusation against France. Can you imagine what the reaction would be? Anyone doubt that?

Apparently she can make films everywhere... Maybe she could make them somewhere else then.

America can survive any comments and still guarantee the freedom of speech - she should be free to express her beliefs.

This is from an interview done ONE YEAR AGO. Obviously, the anti-French British tabloid which chose to try to start a campaign to damage Cotillard knew some people in the US would latch on to this. There's always been a desire by some Americans to ruin anyone (particularloy an artist) who disagrees with their opinions. This is the most brilliant talent and the most engaging of the "new generation" of film artists. Shoot her down now over an old interview? Nonsense. Everyone in the business wants to work with her. Let's France-bait a little less and forgive a little more. Hang in there, Marion; not all Americans are this stupid.

I am not american but I just dont understand why they are disliked in Europe. Everyone who wants a high life with million dollar wages and fame comes to america, we have so much to thank the americans for, music culture, film culture, and when I visited America two years ago, I have never met such polite people in comparison to when I visited Spain and Germany.

I DON'T BLAME EVERYONE FOR BEING UPSET OR HURT BY HER COMMENTS.I'M NOT AMERICAN AND I'M SHOCKED AT THIS.SHE SHOULD HAVE APPOLOGISE HERSELF AND NOT THROUGH HER LAWYER.

Isn't it a shame that a 9/11 conspiracy website that has decided to dig up year old remarks from someone who is "hot" right now to gain themselves attention has managed to do so? Anyone who has seen the entire interview will know that Ms. Cotillard was simply repeating and toying with conspiracy theories that she read and heard. At no point in the interview does she express these theories as her own. But a 9/11 conspiracy website decided to dig up these quotes and post them out of context to get themselves attention. What's sad is that a large part of the media picked this up without actually checking into.

She doesn't believe in the moon landings. I bet she believes in crop circles, though. What's that overhead? chemtrails you say? Since she is French, I wonder what she thinks about the Dreyfus case.
