Mario Lopez To Host Top Pop Group

Mario Lopez is slowly and steadily conquering the hosting world. Fresh off the news that he's replacing Mark McGrath on Extra comes a new gig. Mario has been named the host of new MTV reality series Top Pop Group. The show will feature nine unsigned music groups competing for a $100,000 grand prize.

The groups will be mentored by celebrity coaches, helping them with their singing and dance moves, and a panel of judges will give them feedback. Home viewers will vote for their favorite group every week. Sounds kinda like American Idol, huh?

Mario will be joined by co-host Marianela Pereyra, who is a commentator for CNN's Showbiz Tonight. Top Pop Group premieres September 11th on MTV.
