It’s official, just cause you put a bunch of hot naked dudes in a movie, it doesn’t mean it will make money.
“Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane’s new feature Ted blasted by the highly anticipated stripper film Magic Mike at the box office this weekend. The grown up teddy bear made nearly $15 million more than the strip tease, meaning stoner dude movies make more than horny housewife movies.
Ted raked in a solid $54.1 million, much more than what the studio anticipated. Magic Mike did all it could just to make $39.1 million. The only thing that could have made Mike’s numbers even lower could have been Tom Cruise singing in it…
The good news is that both films managed to beat out Brave, illustrating that people still prefer vulgarity to family wholesomeness. Disney’s woman-empowering animated adventure came in at number three, earning $34 million.
Ted stars Mark Walhberg who doesn’t strip. Mostly his character John Bennett sits on the couch with his magical teddy bear, Ted, who he drinks beer and smokes weed with. His girlfriend Lori, played by Mila Kunis, wants more from their relationship, which tests the waters of Wahlberg and Ted’s lifetime friendship.
Yeah it’s simple, but so is, “A male stripper teaches a younger performer how to party, pick up women, and make easy money.”
Sorry ladies… Guy movies come out top this weekend. You can have the title back when Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 premieres this November. Until then, Ted 2, anyone?
