So let’s be honest, Michael Phelps will always hold a special place in our heart, but maybe it’s time to focus on the other American Olympians rocking Speedos poolside.

Enter Ryan Lochte. You might recognize the name as he did manage to score six medals in the 2008 Olympics, (three gold, two silver, one bronze) -- a really impressive performance that was unfortunately overshadowed by his teammate's record haul of eight solid gold accolades.

But with Phelps admittedly backing off his training regimen in lieu of becoming a better person, this summer’s games might be all about Lochte.

The chiseled swimmer is rocking the July/August cover of Men’s Health magazine and in the issue, he talks about his personal best, which he thinks is yet to come. “I know I haven’t had those perfect swims yet.”

In the 2011 World Championships he not only managed to personally beat Phelps, but also to set a world record. Apparently that’s just a starter course, “The World Championships were just an appetizer of what I’m capable of doing.”

Though he did recently lose a meet to Phelps, Lochte blames it on over-training (presumably for the big show coming this summer), “During heavy training, I’m not great because I’m so beat up.”

So it certainly seems he has the confidence to take center stage in London, but does he have the skill?

Lochte thinks it’s in there. “Pain, tolerance, endurance—when it comes down to that point, there’s always something left. You just have to find it,” he says.

We hope he can do it… and we are certainly going to enjoy watching him try.

For your own appetizer, the issue of Men’s Health is on newsstands now.
