The head of the judiciary in Malawi has officially taken over the appeal for Madonna’s adoption case. She’s looking to overturn the judge’s initial ruling, which rejected her application to adopt 3-year old Mercy.

It will be a three-judge ruling, which Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo presiding over the case.

High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal spokesman Joseph Chigona says, "Since this involves an infant it will be heard in chambers.

Adding that "this is an important case; that's why the chief justice himself has taken special interest."

Madonna has already purchased a home in Malawi to prove that she plans on having both David and Mercy visit their native home often, and has also hired a nanny to look after Mercy during the adoption appeal process.

As Hollyscoop reported previously, Madonna isn’t required to attend the hearing. But it would probably act in her favor if she did decide to attend. The appeal is set for May 4th.
