Madonna vs. Janet Jackson

Could there some bad blood between Madonna and Janet Jackson? Like we first reported yesterday , Madonna, Janet, Shakira, Demi, Ashton, and Penelope all went to NYC HotSpot Butter on Monday night.

According to the The NY Post, Madonna arrived "hand in hand" with Shakira and was spotted dancing on banquettes with Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Penelope Cruz.

So where was Janet? Miss Jackson was holed up a few booths down and, "She was not invited to join Madonna's crew," said an onlooker, who also said the table drank "seven bottles of champagne and a ton of beer."

Why the bad blood? That's so High School, we though Madonna would have been passed all that non-sense drama by now.

True both are Legends but Come on is this a serious question?????? Vocally, Lyrically,Musically, Talent= Janet is the better artist. Madonna is white and has a little talent and that goes a long way in white society (70% of the population) thats why she has the bigger sales. But talent alone, Madonna can never hold a candle to Janet. Janet is in her own league and no one can do what she does, the way she does it...

It wasn't the dancing in Truth or Dare, it was an outfit that Madonna put on. So from that, the beef grew. Janet is very sensitive, overly some may think. There used to be a Janet Jackson fan chatroom and Janet actually went in there to chat from time to time. Sometimes people would log in and say mean things, and I heard that Janet cried and got upset and some of the mean things people said about her. They would ban those people from the room. They even banned the use of the name or word "Madonna" being posted in the room. They were very petty. And Janet's husband at the time would put up pornography photos sometimes, I don't know why, he was kind of gross. I don't care though, he gave me free tickets front row to all of her shows. I hear that Janet needs that love from fans in the front rows to make her feel good, she feeds off of it. So she is very sensitive, low self esteem, regardless of how beautiful or wealthy she is, she is very down on herself. I like both Janet and Madonna. I've never seen Madonna live though, only the rented Girlie Show, which was awesome. I don't think that there should be beef with either of them. Madonna just needs to explain to Janet what she meant by Rhythm Nation-esque or whatever. It was so many eons ago. I bet Madonna doesn't even remember it. Janet does though, the woman has the memory of an elephant.

You guys are crazy! Why are you so concerned over who is better??? First off, anyone that knows music will tell you that in the 80's when both of these stars were huge, madonna automatically had a larger fanbase, mainly because she was pure POP. Janet was using hip-hop and r&b influences in her music. Two completely different fanbases! One ALOT larger than the other. Even today, artists within the R&b and hip-hop genres don't cross over as easily as artists in rock or pop. If you notice, only in the mid 90's did Janet's music switch to a more solid POP sound. If they have a beef then let them, but don't throw your biased two cents into the mix. Someone is so much in denial due to their biased opinion that they made a comment about Madonna singing better than Janet, they mentioned Evita. All I have to say is go on youtube and type in evita, listen to her live performances. She would have done better to lip synch. Also, Madonna does lip synch...ALOT. I have been to her last three concerts and everytime she does extreme dancing or movements she lip synchs. She opened her Reinvention tour with a lip synched performance! SO WHAT. Janet also does alot more dancing and movement than Madonna. And she dances continuously throughout the show. NO SINGER does that without playing a track in the background and singing over it. They would sound breathless and haggard! Oh, by the way. Go to youtube and type in janet jackson live performances. She sings her slow songs live and she is a very good singer. She sings her "Black Cat" performances live at EVERY concert. Very powerful performance. Guys, justbe realistic.

Madonna has never been teacher to Janet, nor was she ahead of Janet in style and Dance. Perhaps you guys are to young to remember those days or were not born yet, but I am the age of these women. JAnet , her style, the video's steemed more of her brother, he paved the intial way. Janet had higher performance stadards before MAdoona, and it wasn't until after pleasure principle, that MAdonna began to step it up, and mimik Janet, and yes 12 artcles in the 80's were written in regards to that. Janet helped streamline modern dance in video's and on stage with her choreographers. It wasn't untl 4 years later Madonna attempted her style on stage. Janet and her brother had already done it. However Madonna was known to be a smart mouth with a high EGO. This is part of the publicity stunts. 2 writers confronted both of them on it, and asked why the 2 of them have been seen togther in the past but both deny it. THe Madonna Image had to be kept, as well as Janets. Hince the 1994 video comment from MAddona and Janets article to feed the competition for both womens publicity. (STAGED to contridict the article release threats about the truth). JAnet wen tot bat for Madonna and her choice to have a baby, defending Madonna's choice. However one thing is clear, JAnet's fan base is larger, the fan club has 25 times the members. SO you need to get yoru facts stright, and that is Janet's former international clubs. Now I was in NYC at the tiem Discipline was beign released, and I gave up goig nearly. the lines were too long. I never saw that for MAdonna's recent last 3 albums, nor Mariahs. However I liek all 3 artists but Janet is a better artist, and performs on stage much better. That is clear. More power to them all, and the FANS need to grow upand learn the hsitory of music before postign the clear fiction above.

She has five Grammys and A GOLDEN GLOBE for Best Actress...Janet cannot compare. Madonna has more number one singles than Janet, more number one albums than Janet, and has completely outsold Janet in the concert venue. There's no point in even stating the obvious facts here. Madonna is the undeniable Queen of Pop...She knows she's not the best singer or the best dancer but she's not interested in that, she's interested in pushing people's buttons, and being provocative, and being political. The irony is that even her biggest flop, "American Life" was a number one album!!!

Whatever!!! Janet was in Show biz while Madonna was crawling her way out of the ghettos in Mich! Janet has spent more weeks at #1 on the pop singles chart, this is really impressive if you consider that Madonna has 2 more #1 hits than Janet. Janet cranked out 7 consecutive top 5 singles from 1 album (RN), she holds the record til this day! Janet is more musically diverse then Madonna could ever hope to be, Janet has 17 #1 R&B singles, Madonna has 0! Janet has 10 #1 pop singles, Madonna has 12! Janet has had #1 singles on the Rock charts, Rap charts, Adult Contemporary charts...ahhh Madonna-0! The only chart that Madonna truly dominate is the Dance charts, she has over 30#1's on that chart and Janet is closing in with 20 #1's herself! Janet also has the highest grossing debut Tour ever by a female artist! The record has not been broken yet! And she's no punk with her subsequent tours, cause she's outsold Madonna by a landslide! The reason is Janet's a much better performer, she dance and sings much better than Madonna could ever hope or dream of! Few people know that when Janet tried out for Fame, Madonna tried out as well and Janet won the role! The producers at the time said that Madonna was to stiff as a dancer, she had no grace, lol! Janet is much better perfomer/dancer than Madonna. Janet is the one who made abs on women stylish and sexy not Madonna. As far as influence Brittney, Ciara Aaliyah and other all borrow from Janet. I have seen both Janet and Madonna concerts and I think Janet's was better. It is interesting that Madonna was a trend setter in the 80's and many people mistakenly think she's a trend setter today, but she isn't--Madonna is talented but she is more of a high profile follower (with a built in PR machine)--Look back and you will see that Madonna really follows trends rather than following them...vogue--done in black gay clubs. Electronica..done much better by Bjork and the list goes on and on.

As a one time fan of both of these successful women, having seen them both in concert and bought both of their albums, there is no comparison between the two. Madonna has been a much larger and more impactful force in the world than Janet. Her concerts have been better and she honestly is more interesting than Janet. Janet has never transcended what she is capable of musically. Madonna for that reason is more of a music icon. Also, Janet really would not have been half as successful in her early years if it hadn't have been for Michael. She really has a very thin voice and her dancing has always been better than her vocal capabilities. I love them both but we need to keep it real. Madonna is a legend. Janet is the sister of a legend.

What I can tell is everytime I saw in the 80´s and 90´s something Madonna made, soon after JJ was copying the same shit...even same video directors... same spot???c´mon. Janet was an actress before Madonna dipped into acting, does that mean Janet was ahead of her? No, its just acting. Neither invented it. Janet does not copy Madonna's style, music, blab blah blah. They're completely different. I find the thought quite humorous actually. I suppose Jackie Wilson copied Elvis Presley too, hm? In response to someone who said Madonna's far more talented then Janet vocally, and that her voice is weak...what?! Janet is a great singer. Madonna is no Whitney and neither is Janet, but Janet has a nice voice. Janet does sing live as well. She lip syncs once and awhile - SO WHAT? Michael did too. Not surprised that everyone has their information wrong. Janet was NOT dropped by Virgin. Her contract with them was up. It was for 5 albums. Lets refresh our memories with a run through, "janet." "the velvet rope" "all for you" "damita jo" "20 yo". Yep, thats 5 albums. On to the next record label. The reason Janet isn't selling well is NOT because people aren't interested or anything akin to that. She is being blacklisted from MTV from the FCC since 2004. I don't know if MTV finally got over it, seeing that they interviewed her and Jermaine Dupri after the Video Music Awards party, but thats a major factor that you just can't leave out. Janet can dress however she wants to dress, who cares about age? Who cares when Madonna stopped? Is she supposed to follow suite? She'll do what she wants, just like Madge will do what she wants also. I still see her doing yoga positions with a leotard, whats the big difference? I read someone say that Janet's audience was never big internationality? Are you kidding me? Her first tour "Rhythm Nation" in 1990 still holds the record for the fastest sell out in the history of the Tokyo Dome, a record seven minutes. In the end, the tour spawned numerous sold out shows around the world and attracting over 2 million fans. This made the Rhythm Nation World Tour the biggest debut tour by any artist in history. The tour grossed over $28.1 million in the U.S. alone and it became one of the ten best grossing concert tours of 1990. So what if Madonna has released more singles, albums, etc.? Michael Jackson has outsold The Beatles and Elvis Presley, who have numerous upon NUMEROUS albums, with only 7 official adult solo LPs. Finally, I want to say that I like a lot of Madonna's songs and music videos (I don't own any of her albums so I can't say anything about them) but overall I like Janet the best.

I grew up listening to both of them, but Janet is my girl. I lost respect for Madonna when she married the Brit (nothing against Brits), changed her accent, moved to London and then started dissing her native country. I am not going off on a rumor I saw it on national TV a few years back. You have people here calling both of them old. I guess you guys don’t realize that we all get old. Wait until you are their ages and see how you feel. They aged gracefully and both look awesome!!!

Michael was so successful and putting out janet as a younger sis foil was a good "cashing-in on brother" idea (yep, by joe). Janet would've never gotten attention w/o the MJ factor. It was to janet's credit that she labored to be taken on her own terms, but unfortunately her moves and sound are still essentially MJ-derivative (of course, Madonna-derivative, too).. dopeboi: well, u'r obviously flailing nonesense about. First Madonna's last tour grossed almost $200M, & rhythm nation didn't gross $95M but less than $35 all-in-all (M's blond ambition tour grossed higher despite lesser number of shows) Nevertheless, I LOVE janet's "when I think of you", one of my 80s favorite.

I have been a fan of both of these ladies for years now, and they are both icons in the music business. if not for them, the pop tartlets we see and hear today would not be around. much respect to anyone who has been in the game for twenty years plus and is still putting out music. in the past, there have been catty things said. madonna began it with her truth or dare comment, and janet countered with her vibe interview. i think most of the beef is media created. as of late, janet has mentioned she liked madonna's bedtime story video, and madonna has given janet props for her work with various charities. it would be awesome if they ever collaborated. and, janet has not been 10 years behind madonna, ever. over the years i have seen how both women have complemented and had similarities in each other's careers, but they are both trailblazers. They are both iconic and have had their ups and downs in the media, and they both have their own records that they have set. I think it's pure media speculation that there is still a beef at all. Her last tour is the higest earning tour ever for a female artist, and she is the richest female vocalist of the entire rock era. Last but not least Janet has not had a solid hit in years, she has never even touched Madonna's global appeal and never will.

When Janet had her "wardrobe malfunction" at the superbowl a few months later someone at a redcarpet interview asked madge if she thought there would be any malfuctions that night and she said no because only people with "class" were performing. I think it was the mtv awards. Maybe janet heard about that. But isn't that the wh0re calling the h0e a h00ker.

Common now! Madge has NO talent whatsoever! BUT!!!... She had and still has this incredible stuff who TURNED her to a star. She was in the right place at the right time and she was smart enough to realise it and stick to it. As for Jacksons they are really talanted and contributed to music much more than Madgy did

uh..Madonna has never copied Janet's style. Everything Madonna's done has always been 10 years ahead of Janet. And as far as Madonna's glory days being over, that's been said for the last 15 years, but yet here she is, still going strong and still on top of her game. I wish some people would change the cd already, that "she's so over talk" is getting so old.

I think their alleged "beef" stems from an article on Janet that came out in VIBE magazine back in 93, 94 (around the time "janet." was released). When asked about Madonna, Janet stated that her mother told her "if you have nothing nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all." A few years earlier in Madonna's Truth or Dare, someone made a comment about the dancing being very "Rythmn Nation" and Madonna replied "bite your tongue." Sometime after the VIBE article Madonna responded by saying that she's not sure where this is coming from and maybe one day Janet will tell her. It's sad that pop female icons who have contributed so much to entertainment can't seem to click. Madonna is pushing 50, and Janet turned 41. It's time to grow up. They both copy each other's style anyway.

I think that both of them, but especially Madonna, need to realize that their glory days are behind them and that they are no longer as relevant as they were 10 years ago.
