Madonna, who has two adopted children from Malawi, feels like she was 'chosen' by the African country to help in any way possible.

On Tuesday Madge attended the brick-laying ceremony of the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, in Lilongwe and took time to talk to reporters about her special cause.

She said: “People always ask me, ‘Why did you choose Malawi?’ But I have always said, ‘Malawi chose me’. Growing up in a privileged life, I took education for granted. Coming to Malawi has taught me a lot.”

The school she is building will cost about £9 million to build and will have space for 500 “future female leaders.”

She said: “I realised how much children deserve to be educated and so, for me, the best thing I could do was to build a school, a unique school that will create future female leaders, scientists, lawyers, doctors and if this school is successful it will be used as a model to replicate it in other countries.”

Madonna is in the country with all her children and will take the two youngest to meet and spend time with their biological families.

robbinlea, are you kidding? There is a waiting list for domestic adoption. On top of that, the biological parents can come back any time and steal your kid. I would NEVER do a domestic adoption.

I think your work should start at home! We have enough kids here in the US that need adopting. Of course, that wouldn't cause a media circus.

I really admire what Madonna is doing along those lines. My message to her is to keep up the great work! The world needs more people who will take the time to empower our youth before they begin feeling powerless!
