Or that pop music has been waiting for, anyway.

She doesn't apologize for not plastering on a giant smile in photo shoots to appease society.

Fashion Magazine

“I’m drawn to women who aren’t painted in history as sweet figures...Every photo shoot I do, I get asked for big smiles, and I shouldn’t have to be that way.” – Lorde, to FASHION magazine.

She presented this self-empowerment message when she shared her own un-Photoshopped image from a recent concert.

She called out Selena Gomez’s “Come and Get It” for its questionable message.

She took issue with her lyrical content saying “I’m a feminist, and the theme of her song is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”

And she offered up this critique on the media portrayal of Taylor Swift.

“Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls [who might think] ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift'…That’s fucking bullshit.”

But that doesn’t keep her from becoming friends with T-Swift in the process, proving you can build bridges and still have strong opinions.

She handed a DJ’s ass back to him after he tried to make dumb lesbian jokes about their friendship.

“Is there something wrong with lesbians? Is that what you’re trying to say?” she questioned after the DJ made a joke about Ellen DeGeneres.

Finally, she does this on stage in favor of sexy dancing.

She knows her strength. Her name is Lorde. Hear her roar.
