After what felt like years of gossip, rumors and reports that she was to be cast in the 2013 sex thriller The Canyons we can now officially, officially, officially (and so on...) report that Lindsay Lohan is on board!
A press release from the production confirms the news.
Lindsay will star in the film alongside porn star James Deen. She will play the lead role, Tara, one of a group of 20-somethings all entangled in a web of paranoia, violence, and – yes – SEX.
The film promises to be a contemporary noir adventure that will highlight “the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally.”
Paul Schrader, writer of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, will helm the project at a directorial level. The director couldn’t be more pleased with the casting choices.
“Lindsay Lohan and James Deen not only have the acting talent they also have that screen quality that keeps you watching their every move,” he said.
Rivaling Schrader’s excitement is the film’s screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis.
Ellis, whose previous projects include the novels behind American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction, handled the screenplay and was surprised by how the cast has solidified so quickly.
“Everyone who landed their roles deserved them,” he said. “Using social media as a way to help build a film is really like riding the wave into the future."
The film became a reality when Schrader, Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope joined forces to raise $150,000 for on fund raising site Kickstarter.
Pope previously shared his excitement for having Lindsay on board with Hollyscoop.
“Lindsay is an actor that has the native ability and charisma that makes her compelling,” he said.
Producers were also able to hold some auditions online, employing social media app Mobli to help. As a result, up and coming actress Lauren Schacher will be cast in the role of Caitlin.
Even with all the hype, Braxton, along with everyone else paying attention to this story, did have some reservations, adding. “[Lindsay] needs to maintain a focus and consistency in approach and have a balance in her private life to pursue life as an actor, if that is what she wants.”
Pressure’s on now, Lindsay… Let’s see what you’ve got!
