Lance Armstrong Coming Out Of Retirement

Lance Armstrong
Lance Armstrong just couldn't stay off that bike for long. Maybe Favre's awesome game yesterday inspired him to come out of retirement. He's announced that he's back and ready to compete in the Tour De France 2009.

Cycling journal Velo News reports: Armstrong, who turns 37 this month, will compete in the Amgen Tour of California, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Georgia, the Dauphine-Libere and the Tour de France - and will race for no salary or bonuses.

The publication also says that Lance is prepared to discuss his decision further in an upcoming article for Vanity Fair. That's dedication right there…no money or bonuses! The man loves his bike!

Wait A Minute
A co-worker today came in excited about Lance Armstrong going after his Tour de France. I mean almost 20 guys were gathered around discussing this as if Mr. Armstrong was a god. Did I miss something? While I do not have a problem with Mr. Armstrong; he cheated. I have no problem with individuals getting second chances; we all make mistakes. I do have a problem with a pronounced double-standard in America. I watch TV shows of hunters sneaking up on "bambi" in the woods and blowing his brains out and somehow this is OK and moral, because they decide it is. How arrogant! Yet, Michael Vick is imprisoned and his career ruined because of what he did. No second chance there. Marion Jones admits she took steroids; she cheated, yet no second chance. Martha Steward - tho' not an athlete - cheated, but gets a second chance and making tons of money. What is it with some White Americans who feel people like Lance Armstrong, who cheated, deserves a second chance and other athletes of different races, who have made mistakes, don't? Come to think of it, there really wasn't much ado about Roger Clemens. But if he was a Black man ... Mr. Armstrong is being made into a superhero. I personally think that many White folk in America still don't get it. Many do not realize that they time and time again smack people of color in the face with these double standards. They are saying essentially that non-White American athletes don't count for anything; they don't deserve second chances. Ruin them and take all of their money. I am sorry, I won't be one of those cheering Lance Armstrong on. My children ask me why this White man can cheat and get a second chance and people like them, cannot. I am not a racists but America still suffers from the disease.

Braniff
Lance Armstrong's time has come and gone. Once he declared his retirement, he should have stayed retired. If he thought otherwise, he should have looked at what happened to Michael Jordan or Muhammed Ali at the ends of their careers. It's best to quit at the top--not as a has-been. Lance quit at the top--I feel he is going to end his career as a has-been.
