This is a minorly misleading title, Lamar Odom drops out of “Olympic Consideration,” Jeremy Lin drops out of the Olympic training camp (even though he wasn’t on Team USA), and Michael Phelps drops out of one event at the Olympics.
After Lamar Odom’s disastrous last year at the Dallas Mavericks and news that he’s just been signed to the Los Angeles Clippers, Odom had an invite to Team USA Training Camp for Olympic consideration, but has just dropped out.
“Lamar Odom tells ESPNLA he will skip Team USA this summer and work with trainers in L.A. and focus on this season,” ESPNLosAngeles writer posted on Twitter.
Michael Phelps on the other hand is just the laziest, most talented swimmer in America and might have decided that going for eight gold medals was really cutting into his bong-hitting time, and dropped out of 200-meter freestyle race, bringing his total events to seven (four individual competitions, three relays).
Apparently, Phelps’s new motto is just to “relax a little bit.”
“Four years ago,” says Phelps, “We were trying to literally do everything. That was what we wanted to do, but at this point it’s ‘Let’s go out, let’s have some fun, let’s relax a little bit.’”
Other sporting phenom Jeremy Lin has just announced that he dropped out of the USA Select Team – the team that practices against Team USA in camp and is considered for future US teams. So he was never in the Olympics, but he was practicing against the players that would go on to compete in the Olympics.
America, a nation of quitters.
