Kung Fu Panda

Angelina Jolie has just signed on for the role of the heroine in a film based on Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling crime novels.

According to Variety, Angie will play the beautiful Dr. Kay Scarpetta in the film adapted from several of the books in the 16-novel series.

The movie won’t just follow one of the books, which is similar to how the Bourne movies with Matt Damon were taken from several of Robert Ludlum books.

In Cornwell's books, Scarpetta starts out as the chief medical examiner for Virginia and later relocates to various East Coast states to become a private forensic consultant.

No screen writer or director has been chosen as of yet, which is partially in part to Cornwell being very protective over her work. But when Angelina shows interest, how does one say no?

It may be a couple of years before we see the movie come to life. In the meantime, we can look forward to her starring in the sequels of both Kung Fu Panda and Wanted.

Kung Fu Panda was such a hit that DreamWorks has decided to do a sequel.

They confirmed today that it's already in the works and they're hoping for a release date in 2011. The film will reunite Jack Black and Angelina Jolie, and the movie will be released in 3-D, which is the new standard for all DreamWorks animation movies.

The original Kung Fu Panda grossed more than $626 worldwide, so news of the sequel isn't that surprising. In the mean time, if you missed the original in theaters, it comes out on DVD on November 9th.

Everyone's favorite panda is coming back to the big screen. Kung Fu Panda was such a hit in theaters that movie bosses are gearing up for the sequel.

The movie grossed $560 million in global sales, making it Dreamworks' most successful movie ever.

Dreamworks chief executive, Jeffrey Katzenberg said, "We've started conversations about it, and I think in the next 30 or 60 days, we'll be able to talk completely about that.

Don't expect the movie to hit theaters anytime soon though, the original Kung Fu Panda took 4 years to make.
Will Smith was a superhero at the box office this weekend with Hancock, which brought in $78.3 million in the global box office over the weekend.

Also bringing in some major mullah was Kung Fu Panda with $38 million, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was number three with $24.3 million, while Wanted slipped to number four with $18.8 million. Wall-E rounded out the top five with $13 million.
In Kung Fu Panda, kids finally have their own Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon that they can call their own in this hilarious animated parable that teaches kids to follow their dreams, even if they like extra cookies.

Po the Panda is a lovable slacker brought to life magnificently by Jack Black, a son of the town's noodlemaking goose (James Hong), Mr. Ping. Ping wants his son to take the family business seriously, but Po only has dreams of becoming a martial artist like his idols, the Furious Five. The Five consist of Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackey Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Crane (David Cross).

While trying to see the Furious Five in person, Po becomes mistakenly pegged as "The Dragon Warrior". The temple's instructor Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) rejects Po as the chosen one and does everything he can to make him quit his training. Thanks to the wise turtle Master Oogway (James Hong), both Po and Shifu learn to trust in each other reminding them that "Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present." When Shifu's former protege, the evil Tai Ling, escapes from his prison to exact revenge and claim the Dragon scrolls for himself, it's up to the transformed Po to stop him.

The CG animation really brings the characters to life with it's attention to detail, not only in regards to scenery, but helping make the characters come alive. You're left more inspired than saddened at the colorful passing of one of the characters and left on the edge of your seat when Tai Ling escapes from his dark, imposing prison. Directors John Stevenson and Mark Osborne were careful to give the animated characters the same sense of surprise and comic timing as they would their human counterparts.

Lessons ranging from believing in yourself to forgiveness are palatable and not preachy, which is why adults and kids alike will fall in love with this film and it's titular panda. Po and company also reminds little kids and grownups alike that martial arts is more about personal discovery and less about kicking someone in the head. At 88 minutes, it's a definite relief from this summer's 2 hour plus fare. Kung Fu Panda will definitely keep you laughing and have you looking forward to the next chapter of Pandamonium.

Billy Tatum gives this 4 1/2 Scoops (Out of five).

Jack Black is Kung Foo fighting his way into the Cannes Film Festival 2008. JB stars in Kung Fu Panda, the animated film about a panda that learns martial arts and then uses this new ability to fight his enemies. Yesterday, Jack came out showing his new moves for the movie photo call.

He has a kung fu master, Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) who "has trained five of the greatest warriors that the world has ever known", to help him.
