AT&T May Have Helped Kris Allen Win American Idol

Adam Lambert fans will be furious to learn that phone giant AT&T may have swayed Idol outcome to favor Kris Allen.

According to an explosive new article in The New York Times, AT&T, who is one of the biggest corporate sponsors of American Idol, may have heavily influenced the outcome of this year's competition "by providing phones for free text-messaging services and lessons in casting blocks of votes at parties organized by fans of Kris Allen."

AT&T provided the free text-messaging services at two parties in Arkansas after the final performance episode of American Idol last week, according to the company and people at the events.

The Times reports that AT&T reps showed fans how to "power text," which meant to cast 10 votes with the touch of a button, which violates show rules. There were no such parties thrown for Lambert.

In a statement issued Tuesday, a spokesman for AT&T said, “In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community. A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”

Needless to say, Lambert fans are furious with AT&T and blame the mobile giant for Lambert's loss last week. During the press conference following the show, a reporter backstage told Allen that the majority of the night’s votes came from Arkansas, and now we know why!

Do you feel cheated? Who did you vote for? We want to hear your thoughts on this possible scandal.

First of all, your article is wrong. This article originated from the Arkansas Gazette and it wasn't just a few AT&T employees. Read excerpt below: "In Conway after Tuesday's performances, fans at the Estes Stadium watch party took out wireless phones and started making calls and firing off text messages - some voting on their own devices and OTHERS ON PHONES BORROWED FROM AT&T, which SUPPLIED ABOUT FIFTY DISPLAY UNITS and REPRESENTATIVES to TEACH "MULTIPLE POWER TEXTING." AT&T ALSO MADE ABOUT THIRTY PHONES AVAILABLE in a "TEXTING ZONE" at a "WATCH PARTY" at the PEABODY LITTLE ROCK HOTEL, -where Megan Lynch and friend Rainey Gibson, both 22, watched Allen perform his first song of the night, Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine." "I loved it," Lynch said. Gibson, who said she would be voting nonstop, said Allen did an excellent job. A TABLE OF OUTLETS and POWER CORDS WAS AVAILABLE at ESTES STADIUM One of them was UCA student Bill Coghlan, who admitted he didn't actually watch the show, but was voting because "My friend told me to." Nobody had to urge UCA student Brittany Gilbert to vote. "I start five minutes before the show ends, and I don't stop," she said, eyes fixed to her phone with fingers perpetually poking buttons. She said she was leaving to GET ACCESS TO THREE MORE PHONES FROM AT&T during the four-hour voting bloc. Others vowed to remain at the STADIUM and keep voting until the midnight event closed. The event was the FIFTH "WATCH PARTY" organized by the Kris Allen Kick Awesome Task Force, said organizer Sonja Keith. The task force plans another WATCH PARTY at Conway's Simon Park. Another party also is planned for Peabody as well as other sites. Information for this article was contributed by Derrik J. Lang and Erin Carlson of The Associated Press. FEEDBACK: I want to add that the Governor helped with the setting up and sanctioning of the Stadiums and Voting centers and getting AT&T to donate the Go-phones and help teach how to POWER VOTE. I was very very upset when Adam lost. Not to take anything from Kris. But he is a regular, talented singer, not really that extraordinary. He is not in any way the equal of Adam. But then few are. Shame on AT&T. They should be fined. They have rigged the outcome of a show that the people pay money to vote on.

in any case...both of them are winner.

Fiddle-Dee-Dee and shame on thee, Glambert…..you ate all the Cheetos and drank the last of the Hawaiian Punch again! Filthy dirty orange fingers and a red mouth always give you away, darling….just ask Britney or Ashlee or Jessica! RUN from the GAYKIN! DANGER, Danger!

Come on guys, let it go. Adam will be just fine. Adam is a likable guy. People already knows who he is. He has that IT factor going. HE will be a star. I like Kris as well. I think he will do great, but I dont think he will be as big as Adam. Just my opinion now.

I’m a devout Christian and mother of two music-loving boys, and I must ask: What is wrong with America? America’s vote for Kris Allen, or America’s vote against Adam Lambert, seems to be a hate vote against the various sectors of society that Adam appears to stand for. People lost respect of the fact that American Idol is a singing talent competition open to all -- straight or gay, Christian or Jewish, etc. Voters forgot that it is not a popularity contest for class of persons — not an arena to battle for coalition leadership, neither grounds to crusade for a religious revival, nor an arena for media technology war game. Kris demonstrated that he is a skilled musician and an outstanding vocalist; but Adam consistently proved to be the innovative vocal artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. Adam deserved to win. Visibly perplexed, Kris acknowledged this glaring truth by openly asserting in public that “Adam deserves this. I’m sorry…” So many seconds passed before bewildered Kris eventually acquiesced to receive the undeserved crown, but only after Adam graciously approached to place a brotherly arm around his room mate’s shoulder in a gesture of encouragement. Hello, brothers and sisters -- American Idol is a singing contest and Adam Lambert is the real winner! I should also ask: What is wrong with Fox that it would goad warped controversies towards divisiveness in a TV show viewers enjoy for music, at a critical time like this?

Adam was annoying, all he did was scream. Kris was much talented her sings, plays guitar and piano. Enough said get over it.

I watched American Idol, my very favorite is Adam Lambert. The show brought him out of the woodwork and he will be here to stay. He didn't win, but it really doesn't matter. Everyone knows he is the best and if cheating was involved, then shame on you. Doesn't matter to me that he didn't win, I will be buying his music. He will be just fine.

makes a lot of sense

His "crown" should be taken away and AT&T fined. Someone look into it. Seriously.

here's a thought. it doesn't fucking matter. kris' house will be on foreclosure by 2012

39 million votes came from Arkansas out of 100 million. Arkansas only has 2.8 million people in total. Obviously cheating occurred.

So that explains why a not so good singer won over Adam you can knock the socks off of any singer. But the big stars always are the runner ups. We will hear a lot from Adam and not much about the other guy (can not remember his name)lol Shame on AT & T for rigging a cheating line up!! They should have to disqualify the winner and declare Adam the winner!!
7:39AM 05/27/09 JoanRivers
no cause i wanted kris allen to win
7:34AM 05/27/09 Tameeky
That I Do Believe, but, Kris is a talented guy and I am Not mad that he won. However, I do Love Adam and he is also talented. They Both have Big Futures ahead of them.
