From Avril to Kirsten: Stars With Bad Teeth

How dare they be normal. Celebrities are supposed to be perfect-looking, beautiful creatures with zero flaws. Otherwise, why the hell don’t I just get a million bucks for wearing a pair of Sketchers?

But some celebs have less-than-perfect teeth. Actually, some of them just have straight up bad teeth. Braces, veneers, Invisalign...these celebrities haven’t heard of any of those. Or, they just don’t care. Sometimes having a quirky smile can turn into a celeb’s trademark. Like Cindy Crawford’s mole. At any rate, here are some stars with jacked up grills.

Madonna: Know where Madonna shops for khakis? I’m guessing it’s…wait for it…The Gap. Madonna refuses to close her famous gap, saying that it’s the reason she’s been so lucky. In 1990, Madonna graced the cover of Glamour magazine. The only problem is, they took the liberty of fixing her teeth for her. Yes, they got rid of the gap. She was so mad about it, when they named her Woman of the Year, she refused to accept the award.

Kirsten Dunst: Part of Kirsten’s appeal among the hipster crowd is that she has bizarre teeth. She’s not perfect, and even though she grew up in the spotlight, she hasn’t succumbed to getting her teeth done. She’s known for her vampire fangs, which is maybe why she got one of her first roles, Interview With a Vampire. But on a 2008 cover of Harper’s Bazaar, it looked like Kirsten temporarily corrected her trademark teeth. She had a big, white, perfect smile. I don’t know how this happened because it’s not like magazines Photoshop things ever.

Ricky Gervais: Ricky perpetuates the stereotype that British people have bad teeth. He’s got really bizarre pearly whites. And in fact, they’re not so much pearly whites as they are buttery yellows. Gervais says he was interviewed in the US by a journalist who thought he wore false teeth for his role as an English dentist in the movie Ghost Town.

“He was horrified that I could have such horrible real teeth. It's like the biggest difference between the Brits and the Americans, they are obsessed with perfect teeth. Americans have the idea uniformity is equivalent to looking good. The British character is more free-spirited, more radical.”

Avril Lavigne: I’m not quite sure what’s going on with Avril Lavigne’s teeth. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something is awry. It may be that one fang, or it might be the fact that they’re slightly crooked. Either way, she rocks it. Now only if her music would.

Steve Buscemi: When you’re trying to describe Steve Buscemi to someone who doesn’t recognize his name, nine times out of ten, saying “the dude with the weird teeth” will do the trick. He’s known for his weird roles, and those crazy teeth just add to character. Each tooth is like, going in a different direction. It’s anarchy in his mouth.

Miley Cyrus: I really don’t know if Miley Cyrus has bad teeth, but something is definitely going on there. As a kid, they were bad, but kids’ teeth are always bad. They also smell like sour milk, but that’s another topic. Cyrus told Ryan Seacrest that she had braces behind her teeth when she was growing up and on Hannah Montana. It also looks like she might have some veneers.

Jewel: The woman used to be homeless, and for a long time, she kept her teeth as a reminder of where she came from. But in 2009, Jewel went to a cosmetic dentist to make them at least a little straighter. They’re still a little crooked, but they’re definitely an improvement.

Mike Tyson: Of course he has bad teeth. He’s even missing a few of them. We don’t expect a boxer to have a perfect grill, but for some reason, he’s capped a couple of them in gold. I mean, while you’re turning your mouth into a Jared’s, why not add a few more teeth?
