With the holidays fast approaching it's always great to hear about celebrities donating their time to a good cause. Kim Kardashian is hoping to be one of those celebrities. The reality show star is planning a trip to South Africa with beau Reggie Bush in an effort to follow in Russell Simmons' footsteps.
Russell Simmons announced this week that he's selling bling to help raise money for the development and empowerment of Africans. 25% of the sales of his "Green Initiative" jewelry will go toward the Diamond Empowerment Fund, which will support institutions, like schools and colleges, in South Africa and Botswana and help boost economic development.
Hollyscoop caught up with Kim K while she was attending to her hosting duties at Apple Lounge in West Hollywood for the Ubisoft Rayman Raving Rabbids TV party video game launch party to get the lowdown on her future as a philanthropist.
Speaking about the rumors of her becoming a UN ambassador, Kim told Hollyscoop: "I had dinner with Russell Simmons and lots of ambassadors from the UN. I told them I want to help out and come up with different ideas and speak and talk about the issues that are really current and solve those issues."
She confessed that she's never been to South Africa, but is planning a trip in the near future. "I never have [been to Africa]. Definitely planning a trip. Reggie and I are planning a trip to go with Russell and his foundation to South Africa and Russell Simmons inspires me so much with his stories from South Africa. He is helping kids that can’t afford school so he’s given them free school and I definitely want to follow in his footsteps in that direction," Kim told Hollyscoop.com exclusively.
Speaking of diamonds, we're pretty sure the only thing on Kim's Christmas list is a nice ring from beau Reggie Bush. "We have no plans right now, but if he asked me I would say yes," she gushed. Maybe he can pick up a ring before they head out to Africa? Better make sure it's a conflict free diamond Reg!
