Ever since Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got engaged pre-nup rumors had circulated. No surprise here, but they did sign a pre-nup and the ink was just finalized. It would be foolish not to, Kim K is worth $35 million and Kris falls somewhere between $8 million and $16 million.
I’m sure their marriage is totally true love or whatever, but Kim K monetized her entire wedding, do you really think she wouldn't sign a pre-nup? Everyone knows their last name is spelled Karda$hian.
Previous reports estimated that if things went sour in their relationship that Kris would be the one to loose everything. A source told US Weekly that "he [Kris] does not receive anything if the marriage fails. He agreed to that. He's not worried."
However, The Hollywood Reporter says it's not that simple. While Kim is usually a very smart businesswoman, sometimes her business endeavors don't go as planned. The Kardashian sisters signed a contract to endorse a credit card called the Kardashian Kard, but once the girls found out how many hidden fees and service charges were associated with the card they backed out of the endorsement deal. Then the card company sued them for $75 million in damages for breaching their contract.
If any other legal troubles arise from her business ventures, Kris could walk out of this relationship on top, assuming they ever divorce. Family wealth planner Laura Zwicker says, "He could actually benefit if it clearly delineated that debts and liabilities are actually hers."
So basically, Kris just dribbles basketballs for a living, what could go wrong? Kim's assets are more at risk as she signs a million new contracts all the time. Kim finding herself in a lawsuit would be much more common than Kris H.
I don't even know how she keeps track of all her endorsements, what happens when she's photographed drinking something other than Midori or QuickTrim shakes? Is that a conflict of interest? Does she get sued for exercising in anything other than Sketchers?
A lot of people are saying that it doesn't matter that Kim makes so much more money than her new hubby in terms of pre-nup holding up, "They are similarly situated. She might have 10 times as much assets as he has, but he is not poverty stricken," says Zwicker.
Khloe has been very vocal about any of the Kardashian sisters signing a pre-nup. She and her basketball husband Lamar Odom have a pre-nuptial agreement.
"We have a pre-nup, pre-nups are … do you know what kind of day and age this is. Everybody needs a pre-nup!" says Khloe.
Though Kim's pre-nup is also protecting her sister and family. Since most of the Kardashians are all joint ventures, the pre-nup is really protecting the whole Kardashian clan.
"I mean, I don't care if you make $5 or $5 million, in this day and age. People are crazy, you never know. And when you have businesses together, like we do, you have to protect yourself. It doesn't mean you don't love them," Khloe tells US Weekly.
