The Kardashians Try To Defend “North West”

This is almost like an episode of Scandal: Kardashian Baby Name edition because, nearly a week later, the furor over this Khild’s namesake is so high we’re going to need Olivia Pope on the case.

After announcing that the DNA of Kim Kardashian that fused with the DNA of Kanye West will indeed be called “North West”—“Nori” for short–this family is on damage control. On the scale of celebrity baby names, the name is lying comfortably in a crib somewhere between Apple and Bear Blue, and now everyone wants to know, um, why’d they do that?

On “The View,” Kris Jenner was the first one up to defend North’s honor.

“I love the name North,” she said, before clarifying she’s “pro-North” as if this were a piece of legislation making its way through Congress. “The way [Kim] explained it to me, ‘north’ means highest power, and North is [her’s and Kanye’s] highest point together. I thought that was really sweet.”

Sure, it sounds more like an airline than anything, but it’s more practical than we’re giving it credit for, Kris claims. “It’s North West, but you don’t walk around calling somebody, ‘Hi, North West,’ it’s just North.”

So, there’s that. SIM card hating Rob Kardashian has been asked the same query and here’s what he said:

“I told Kim and Kanye this: I'm like, ‘Yo, people are always going to talk whether it's good or bad. There's always going to be the haters, but do what you guys feel.' Like, you know everyone's going to say, ‘Oh, you're coming up with some weird celebrity, crazy name.' You know how it is. [But] North West, it sounds cool! North is the highest point, so it has a lot of meaning to it."
