Ahh, the Frenemy. I think the term was coined in Hollywood to describe that thing where you start out as friends with someone, have a giant falling out, but then run into each other at parties and talk behind each other's back but then have to pose together for photos like you still love each other.
Here are the most famous Hollywood Frenemies and beware, a lot of them involve Paris Hilton.
Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan – Paris was Lindsay’s introduction to Hollywood nightlife until Lindsay started dating millionaire heir Stavros Niarchos, who also happened to be Paris’s ex. Drama! This was nearly six years ago, but last year the two trainwrecks were spotted partying together, so maybe they are civil again.
Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad: Lauren and Heidi were the only members of “The Hills” that started out as actual friends, meaning, the girls were NOT “cast” to “play” friends. However, these two went their separate ways when Heidi’s husband Spencer Pratt spread rumors about LC and then they had a drunken smack down at whatever club was hot at the moment. Now these two barely talk, though Lauren did make a brief appearance at Heidi’s wedding.
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie: Nicole Richie gained her intro to fame as being Paris Hilton’s best friend. They had their own show “The Simple Life” but in 2005 had a huge fallout when Paris claimed that Nicole got jealous and “turned on her.”
Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton: Kim K is another socialite that Paris introduced to fame, and eventually with the help of her sex tape, got more famous than Paris. Kim used to be Paris’ friend and stylist but they eventually had a fight (shocker) and the rest is history.
Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker: They played besties on “Sex and the City” and were super close off-screen too reportedly until Kim found out how much more money SJP was making on their hit TV show than she was.
Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo: Oh, more drama between reality TV stars, how original! These two were supposed to play besties on their show “The City” but since they were cast as friends, they ended up feuding at work, which made for great TV but bad for friendship.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder: Back in the day, and by that I mean, the ‘90s, Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder were besties, that is, until Gwyn wrote about her in her GOOP newsletter. “I had a ‘frenemy’ who, as it turned out, was pretty hell-bent on taking me down.”
