It’s not easy being a couple in Hollywood. We learned this much in 2013 from the following pairs whose relationships were rocked by scandal. But are their foundations strong enough to keep them from cracking in two?
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
It was a rough year for these two—hard drug scandals and cheating reports all summer long—which led to Khloe filing for divorce from Lamar. Now with the scandals (plural) slowly fading away behind them as a couple, they can each move on individually in 2014.
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton
A photo of Robin grabbing a female fan’s a*s sparked heated rumors that the “Blurred Lines” singer was cheating on his wife, Paula. While it rocked the gossip blogs, it didn’t seem to sway their marriage one bit. They put up a united front and dismissed any trouble in paradise.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley and Liam were reportedly separated for months, but nothing was official. Then photos surfaced of the actor getting kind of cozy with Mexican actress-singer Eiza González, meaning they were caught kissing, full-blown, on the mouth (yes, Miley and Liam relationship stories make us revert back to 3rd graders). Hours later, it was officially announced by their reps that the two were no more.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
Star magazine devoted an entire cover to Will supposedly getting very flirty in a photo booth with a female co-star in New Orleans; in one image the two even playfully lift up their shirts for the camera. Reps quickly denied there was any wrongdoing here and that the photos were from a wrap party and were completely harmless.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
With on-again, off-again relationship rumors, fans braced themselves for the possibility that this longtime couple could be getting a divorce. Michael brought even more attention to their relationship when talking about how HPV was the cause of his throat cancer, allegedly the cause of their separation. With the end of 2013 approaching, however, they appear to be making up and staying together.
Bruce Jenner and Kris Jenner
After 22 years of marriage, and watching all their recent trials and tribulations play out on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Bruce and Kris separated. Anytime a decades-long couple separates in this town it's pretty surprising (because c’mon, most celebs barely make it past the two-year mark), but what made this news all the more scandalous was the possibility of a third party being involved, Ben Flajnik, the 28-year-old “Bachelor” star that Kris has been spending a lot of time with.
Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman
A messy love triangle was exposed when Simon confirmed he was having a love child with a socialite, Lauren, who also just so happened to be the then-wife-of-10-years to his best friend, Andrew Silverman. Andrew since divorced Lauren, even citing Simon as one of the reasons in a legal document, leaving Simon and Lauren all the space they need to raise their child together.
