Kevin Clash. biography
Kevin Jeffrey Clash was born on September 17, 1960, in Baltimore, Maryland. He had an immediate attraction to the Disney Channel and a growing desire to become a puppeteer at an early age. He started his career by putting on free puppet shows for his parents and the children his mother was babysitting.
After meeting puppet-builder Kermit Love and visiting the Sesame Street set in 1978, Clash was hired to perform as Cookie Monster on the Sesame Street float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He went on to play Goriddle Gorilla in The Great Space Coaster from 1981 to 1983 before becoming an official Sesame Street puppeteer in 1984. He had many memorable characters, including Dr. Novel Prize, Hoots the Owl and Baby Natasha, but his most historical, popular character is the infamous Elmo.
In the late 1980s, Clash expanded his artistic reach by performing "P.J." in the Play-Along videos and playing Father Bunny and Be-Bop in Tale of the Bunny Picnic (1986). He later took on the role of Baby Sinclair in Dinosaurs (1991 - 1994), followed by his performance as Elliott Shag on Dog City (1992) and multiple characters in Muppet Time (1994).
