Kyra and Kevin have been happily married for 23 years, and they have two children together. But they recently discovered that they’re distant cousins.
They can thank the Sunday night PBS show, ‘Finding Your Roots.’ The program uses DNA searches and is hosted by Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Gates says Kevin and Kyra “are indeed distant cousins. So talk about six degrees of separation, right?”
Gates’ mission for the show: "I want ... Americans [to] realize how united we are as a people. ... There's so much animosity ... and one of the things that I want the series to do is to show that, deep down, we are all Americans. We've been sleeping together from the very beginning of the country."
What he’s trying to say is, in a way, we’re all married to our cousins.
Kevin and Kyra have two children together, their 22 year-old son Travis, and their daughter, Sosie, 19.
The two have a long marriage, especially by Hollywood standards, and Kyra says the key is making time to keep your relationship a priority—even when you’re busy with the kids.
“I feel the primary relationship has to be the mother and the father, and then it can be the kids,” Kyra said. “Of course the kids come first in planning your life, but it’s incredibly important to keep your relationship as a couple strong and make time for it. It’s the foundation on which everything is built.”
