Kenny Wormald stars in the upcoming Footloose flick, taking on the character Kevin Bacon played, and he was famously recommended to the director by Justin Timberlake.
Hollyscoop sat down with the rising star to get his take on making it big in Hollywood. He tells us he went in to audition for the role and told the casting director he was a backup dancer for Timberlake.
The director knew Justin from working with him in Black Snake Moan, so he called Timberlake to see what he had to say about Wormald, and it was only praise:
“Justin said, ‘Oh, Kenny’s the man, Kenny’s a great kid. He put a stamp on me, which is pretty awesome, to have Justin Timberlake do that. I’ll give him credit any day for my role. I couldn’t believe it. That was awesome.”
As far as his predecessor goes, Wormald has nothing but respect.
“It’s such a honor for a dancer to be in any movie, but Footloose is another story. Kevin bacon was iconic in the first one.”
Wormald tells us he’s such a fan of the original movie, all he wanted to do was “make sure their fans were going to love a new guy to be apart of it.”
So now that he’s got the gig, what’s next for the actor?
“Right now, start promoting the movie. Aside from that, reading a ton of scripts. I’m from Boston, grew up watching Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Mark Walhberg. I want to make movies like they make, work with them.”
And as far as his inevitable status of Hollywood heartthrob, Wormald tells Hollyscoop: “That’s fine with me.”
