The music scene is all smiles since its adorable Kelly Clarkson announced her newest accessory this week: an engagement ring! But it turns out the commitment came with a little arm-twisting of her husband-to-be, Brandon Blackstock.
Blake Shelton, who is managed by Mr. Blackstock, tells Hollyscoop exclusively that he urged Brandon to pop the question to Kelly.
“I told Brandon, man you need to grow up and you figure out that you need to marry this girl,” says Shelton.
Not only that, but Shelton also threw in a sweet incentive for the couple: Playing at the wedding!
“I am going on the record saying, I will do the music at the wedding or whatever you want to do, I’ll be that guy,” he says, “I will play for four hours if I have to, cause you need to get you head out of your a** and ask that girl to marry you.”
Kelly announced their engagement on Twitter, writing: “I wanted y'all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.”
Everyone has been asking about my engagement ring, so here it is :) It's a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around … say.ly/tDQ4MVN— Kelly Clarkson (@kelly_clarkson) December 16, 2012
Along with being Blake’s manager, Brandon is the son of Narvel Blackstock, who reps Kelly. Also, Narvel is married to Reba McEntire, which will eventually make Kelly the country queen’s daughter-in-law—not a bad deal!
Though Kelly and Brandon have been in each other's life for a while now, they have only been officially dating for a year now.
Like a true father figure, Shelton offers his blessings to the couple and their future together.
“I’m so glad he did,” says Shelton. “He is one hardheaded dude and she is the best thing to happen to him.”
