Nas and may no longer be an item, but he’ll be paying for her and their son until further notice. A Los Angeles Superior Judge ruled today that Nas must pay Kelis $55,000 a month in child support for the time being plus the mortgage on their L.A. residence.
Kelis gave birth to the couple’s baby boy Knight just yesterday, and reportedly turned Nas away at the hospital when he tried to be their for the birth. According to several media reports, Nas was too drunk at the time.
And he may want to suck down a few more drink after hearing how much he’ll be shelling out every month!
The two have been fighting over support payments for several months, with Kelis blaming Nas for not helping to pay for many of the costs of her pregnancy and her expenses.
Nas' attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told the judge that the rapper has paid some expenses and the former couple's health insurance has been maintained.
Kaplan proposed paying Kelis a one-time payment of $20,000 until the judge could settle on an appropriate spousal and child support amount at a later hearing. But the judge rejected that offer, saying more money per month would be needed to accommodate Kelis' lifestyle and was warranted based on income declarations filed with the court.
