Russell Brand Files For Divorce From Katy Perry

Sometimes rumors are just rumors, and sometimes, they're a bunch of ugly divorce papers.

After a ton of speculation over the Christmas weekend, Russell Brand and Katy Perry are officially calling it quits. Brand filed divorce paperwork in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Brand confirmed it, releasing the following statement:

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Over the past month, rumors have been surfacing that the split was imminent, but both of them dodged those rumors successfully. Katy mostly distracted us all with her changing hair color, and we all started talking about that for a while.

During the first round of divorce rumors, Russell told Ellen DeGeneres,

"There are always rumors, aren't there? In the end you have to just not engage with Internet technology," he said. "Which is difficult because a lot of the nude women websites I quite enjoy!"

"I've treated the whole Internet now as if it's a wicked little liar," he added. "Yeah. I am really happily married."

Brand concluded: "I'm married to Katy, perpetually. Until death do us part was the pledge. I'm still alive."

So this can only mean one thing: Russell Brand is indeed a zombie.

The rumors died down for a while. But then, over the holidays, Katy hung out with friends in Hawaii while Russell spent time in London with family. He was spotted out a couple of times sans his wedding ring.

Sources told TMZ that the two were "dealing with something" but the sources insisted that divorce was an option.

According to TMZ, "based on what we now know it appears Brand may have blindsided Perry by filing the divorce petition."
