Katy Perry: Nobody Believed In Me – Why She's Starting New Record Label
Katy Perry recently did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where she casually let it slip that she has plans to start her own record label.

Is she really following in the footsteps of other great artists like Lil Wayne and Jay-Z and creating her own roster of musical talent?

“Well, I haven't finished it all up, so it's a bit premature, but really I would like to give the opportunity to other people who are frustrated, like what I went through,” Katy told Hollyscoop at the premiere of her new movie, Part of Me.

Katy confessed that the real reason she wants her own label is because she was dropped from several labels when she was first starting out and claims that “people didn't believe in me or my vision” before she became The Katy Perry that we know today.

“I think there are other people out there that are truly talented that have something to say, and their visions need to be realized and they need to be treated fairly. I’m just going to treat people how I want to be treated, you know?" the popstar tells us.

Katy dyed her hair candy colors before Nicki Minaj ever did. She rocked cupcake bras, sang about kissing girls, and used to be a church singer! Katy admits finding a label that wanted all of Katy’s craziness was difficult.

“The hardest thing about breaking into this business is being able to do it the way I wanted to do it!!,” Katy reveals, “Everyone was okay with being a copycat, to be an original is a lot harder!”

It’s that trailblazing spirit that makes Katy (and her new movie) so irresistible. Speaking of which, there’s been a lot of water cooler talk that Katy reveals a lot about her divorce from Russell Brand in Part of Me.

“It’s very important for me to show a more human side of myself and hopefully people will connect with that,” that's all Katy will reveal, before adding, “Girls are super sensitive, and very emotional creatures! But I like tuning in with my emotions, it always helps me write better music.”

Katy pulled a double duty last night. After the premiere she immediately left the theater and hopped onstage to kick off the Pepsi/Billboard “Summer Beats Concert” series.

Katy Perry: Part of Me hits theatres July 5, 2012 but we have two tickets to an exclusive L.A. screening of the flick on Monday, July 2nd at the AMV Universal City Walk 19 at 7:00pm.
