Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise Officially Divorced

The i's are dotted and the t’s are crossed…

Just over a month after news broke of Katie Holmes filing for divorce from Tom Cruise, the split is official. The couple’s divorce was closed on Monday by a judge in New York.

It seems like just yesterday that we were whispering about Katie’s motives…

E! news has confirmed that a judge has signed off on the final judgment of the case.

The reason for the quick conclussion is because, unlike California that requires six month waiting period in divorce cases, in the Empire State, estranged couples are only required to wait 30 days.

So, just like that, Katie’s an independent woman…

After Katie filed for divorce on a Friday afternoon in June, a speedy negotiation resulted in a quick settlement to be reached over the weekend. Katie was reportedly seeking full custody of the couple’s daughter, Suri, but the full details of the agreement remain on lockdown.

According to the New York Post, the judge presiding over the case has been identified as Justice Matthew Cooper. With Tom’s strong ties to Scientology, the source reports that the main back-and-forth that happened in the settlement had to do with how to raise Suri. Katie has since enrolled the six-year-old in a Catholic school in NYC.

The New York Post reports that neither Katie nor Tom was present at the signing on Monday. The sealed document detailing the agreement has already been impounded in a safe.

“Tom is very happy and relieved that he is moving forward," a source told E! "His priority is being a good father and this settlement will make sure that continues."

Tom and Katie were married in November 2006. The official spilt marks a five-year lifespan of their relationship as man and wife.
