The Jackson matriarch has finally shown her face in public.
After a long weekend and a slew of drama in the Jackson family, Katherine Jackson has publicly spoken out about what the heck is actually going on. And, by speaking out, I mean reading from a prepared statement…
The interview - I mean announcement (the interviewer was not allowed to ask questions) - took place on ABC’s “Nightline” news program.
“Hello, I’m Katherine Jackson,” she started. (No kidding… We’ve been reading about you for the past week!)
“There are rumors going around about me that I’ve been kidnapped and held against my will,” she said. “I’m here today to let everybody know that I’m fine … My children would never do a thing like that.”
Meanwhile, Jermaine, Rebbie, and Rebbie’s daughter - along with some of the spa staff where she had been staying - loomed over her shoulder making sure she read correctly, literally pointing out words at times.... Otherwise they just stood awkwardly around her.
Katherine went on, saying that it was “very stupid” to believe the kidnap rumors, which sparked when Paris tweeted that hadn’t seen her grandma in over a week.
According to the statement, Katherine hadn’t called home while away at the resort because she didn’t want to deal with her phone and her assistant, Janice Smith, was checking in with the children back in L.A. anyway.
“I’m devastated that while I’ve been away … my grandchildren have been taken away,” she continued.
Judge Mitchell Beckloff suspended Katherine’s responsibility of caring for MJ’s children, Paris, Prince and Blanket, and granted her grandson TJ temporary guardianship, citing that the grandmother “is being prevented from acting as guardian by acts of a third party.”
Katherine was previously appointed legal guardian of the kids as stated in Michaels’ will.
The ruling, according to Katherine, was “based on a bunch of lies,” adding “I have a good idea who’s doing that… Who’s behind it.”
In the statement, Katherine said that TJ wanted her to come home before he sought out temporary guardianship, which she told him was unnecessary to begin with.
On Wednesday in court, TJ described the phone conversation with his grandmother as “strange.”
“The way it sounded, I never heard her talk like that,” he told the judge, “Some words sounded slurred.”
She was also upset about what went down at her Calabasas home. While away, the cook, the nanny, and the housekeepers had been let go. As a result, upon returning, Katherine fired Trent Jackson and the house’s security team.
“I never leave without leaving instructions about who to stay with [the kids]” she said.
Before leaving, Katherine ended simply, “Okay… This is all I have to say … I’m on my way home.”
She arrived home on Thursday morning.
