World, meet Katherine Heigl's new daughter Naleigh. Naleigh, meet world.

Katherine and husband Josh Kelley have just released the first picture of the adorable 10-month old they adopted from South Korea.

The couple’s rep said in a statement, "Katherine, Josh and Naleigh are together and doing well.”

Baby Naleigh was named after Katherine’s mother, Nancy, and her sister, Margaret Leigh, who was also adopted from Korea. According to reports, Katherine and Josh have been preparing for a baby since late last year.

"Katie and Josh were aware it could take years, so they were being patient. They are thrilled to have a child in their lives, no matter what the challenges."

Speaking to Ellen Degeneres, Katherine said, "About a year ago is when we said, 'OK, let's start the process,' and the process is intense."

Katherine's sister Meg was adopted from Korea, so baby Naleigh has a extra special place in her heart, and family.

She revealed: “It's been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do. I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. Not everybody is down with that, not everybody thinks that.”

We’re so happy for the couple that they were able to go through the process and get their little bundle of joy in a year’s time!

To Answer Down To Earth: From what I know and have learned about adoption processes, it is far easier and quicker to adopt from a foreign country. The United States and Canada make the process very long, entangled, and legally difficult. If you are lucky in the end you might get a baby at least five years or more later. Yes, there are alot of babies and children right here at home that need help and good homes; unfortunately our bureaucracy makes it so hard and trying to get anywhere near these children who need good homes so badly! I have children of my own but would be willing to adopt a child who needs a good home and security but I know I would be old and grey by the time this would come about; unless one went through other morally illegal channels. Then you are taking a big chance as the people and lawyers you deal with are not the most honest!

What a lovely pic, and I understand but why does all these stars adopt from other countries when we have american children suffering just as bad. We need to help our own country during this horrible time.
