Winehouse and Moss Get Slammed by UN Official

November 18, 2007

Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss have gotten heat from the United Nations drug enforcement official for “glamorizing” cocaine.

The head of the United Nations office basically used Amy's and Kate's name as he warned people of the dangers Britain faces with drugs.

He says, "Look at Kate Moss who still receives lucrative contracts after she was photographed sniffing (cocaine). Rock stars, like Amy Winehouse, become popular by singing 'I ain't going to rehab' (the Winehouse song, Rehab) even though she badly needed, and eventually sought, treatment.

"A sniff here and a sniff there in Europe are causing another disaster in Africa, to add to its poverty, its mass unemployment and its pandemics."

Sadly, this is the society we are living in. People look up to those with drug addictions and all sorts of other problems. Good people don't get their voices heard because scandals are more interesting.

Well said by blackberry, I agree. The last week or so, I've been thinking that perhaps one of the few places on Earth with little human destruction may be the African Savannah, but even that I'm sure the human race will destroy. It's unfortunate that criminals. organized crime and event corporations are destroying the Earth and mankind.

What a spate of ignorance from a paid, public official who is undoubtedly a part of the problem rather than the solution Why is it always convenient to find a woman to bame? Why aren't multinational corporations who leach all of Africa's resources to blame? All of Africa's wealth, her gold, diamonds and oil, flow out. Expired pharmacuticals, low quality food supplies and GUNS flow in. Hardly any control over the situation, the U.N. needs to draw public focus towards Glamis Gold Mining,DeBeers Diamonds and Shell Oil.

I don't exactly blame these two chicks, it's the reaction of the public I blame. The magazines and blogs all focus on these junkies and treat them like gods and goddesses, nothing they do is wrong! No one's chastising them and ignoring them, instead they're almost praising them as they are getting more attention and more popular, more gigs and getting their picture taken everywhere they go.
