Whenever the royal couple visit another country, they always make an effort to wear the traditional clothes of the region they are visiting, but when the Royal twosome showed up to the Solomon Islands last week, they looked like a couple of Disneyland tourists.
Apparently the wrong outfits were gifted to the couple by the Solomon Island government and were in fact, not traditional garb at all.
“We saw [the clothes] weren’t the same design of the traditional clothes we were told would be gifted,” a spokesperson told Us Weekly, “So we checked with the Solomon Islands government to ensure the right ones were worn.”
The government assured them that they were wearing the right clothes, so Kate went to the event dressed in a hot pink strapless dress and William wore a blue Tommy Bahama-style shirt.
Once they arrived at the event, they were told that they weren’t wearing the correct clothes at all, and apparently the outfits were the traditional dress from the Cook islands which is 3,000 miles away.
Essentially, that’s like showing up to a bullfight dressed like a Canadian Mountie.
“It was not learned until later in the evening that the clothes weren’t from the islands,” says the palace spokesperson, “But it was understood that the Duke and Duchess intended to wear traditional Solomon Island clothes and this was appreciated. No offense was caused.”
Hey, at least they weren’t topless? Too soon? Too soon.
