…only not really.
It's the PR stunt seen ‘round the Internet on Wednesday: Kate Middleton and the Queen Elizabeth II decided to take the subway—sorry, I mean “the tube”—to prove they’re just like you. Only when they take it, the experience plays out like a five-star jamboree.
The royal pair snagged a ride that doubled as a photo op.
They visited the Baker Street tube station in London and were led through a tour and private ride on quite possibly the cleanest metro car ever. Seriously, the only thing missing was a butler and hors d'oeuvres...
Despite the disinfected environment and polished floors that you could see your reflection in, the Queen looked on the public transportation spectacle as if she had walked into Ursula’s torture den.
From the Queen’s perspective, we imagine the tube trip played out something like this:
No wonder she was anxious…
Kate, on the other hand, was all smiles. For her good behavior, the Duchess was gifted a pregnancy-themed button reading “Baby on Board."
“I’ll wear it home,” she reportedly told her suit and tie-clad staffers.
Also, she looked pretty (and still petite) in Karl Ludwig and an Angela Kelly hat.
