Kate Gosselin appeared on the
Today Show this morning to talk in detail about how
Jon Gosselin had drained her bank account down to nearly nothing.
Kate told Meredith Viera, "He took $230,000 of the $231,000 and I have a stack of bills in my purse that I can't drop in the mail. I can't sleep at night. I can't pay my bills. I think he's receiving bad counsel. He's always been one to listen to the one next to him."
Kate talked about the remaining $1000 in her account, saying,
"When you've left your children and their mother unable to pay for the roof over their heads, it's not acceptable.”
Kate also alleges Jon has done this before, saying, “He had done it a few days before I filed for divorce. He didn't empty it completely, but it was enough that I was afraid."
In the interview Kate also says she had a feeling this would happen, so she put $100,000 of the account aside to "keep it safe" and to "buy my kids food if needed." But she was forced to put it back in because the couple's separation agreement forbids either of them from withdrawing without the authorization of the other.
Kate has hired lawyer Marty Singer to hold Jon in contempt for defying an existing order prohibiting such bank withdrawals. Singer said in a statement, "If the money is not immediately returned, we will be looking into potential claims against Mr. Heller if he had any involvement with the violation of the court order.”
"It is very disappointing that Jon Gosselin has escalated this to such an ugly place that her lawyers have to do everything they can to protect her and her children from his outrageous actions."
UPDATE:
Jon is claiming there's no truth to Kate's claims. He tells
ET, Kate's story is "a total fabrication. I withdrew $22,000 last Thursday. I have the paper trail to prove it."
