Born Katherine Drachenberg on March 8, 1982, Kat Von D first fell in love with tattooing after getting inked up for the first at the age of 14, and dropped out of school when she was 16-years-old to pursue her dream of becoming a professional tattoo artist. Von D's unique Latino culture-infused style guided her to an empty workstation at 305 Ink in Miami where she appeared in the TLC hit reality TV show Miami Ink.

After a falling out with the shop's lead artist, Ami James, Von D was offered her own series called LA Ink, filmed at her tattoo shop High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood, California. While on the air, Von D broke the Guinness World Record for most tattoos given by a single artist in 24 hours, designed the city of Los Angeles' logo, launched a make-up line for Sephora and authored her debut book High Voltage Tattoo (2009), which reached number 6 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

Von D went on to launch the art boutique Wonderland Gallery next door to her shop in 2010 and the clothing line Kat Von D Los Angeles in 2011, prior to the show's cancellation on August 18, 2011.

Kat Von D and fellow tattoo artist Oliver Pecker worked alongside each other before getting married. But, the two later divorced.

2007

Kat Von D and reality star Steve-O dated for a short while, but ultimately broke up. Von D explained the reasons behind the split on her website, stating, "I think the both of us are far too busy trying to make all our projects a success to have any extra time to devote to partying and hangin' out."

2007 - 2008

Kat Von D and Alex Orbison, the drummer for Whitestarr, dated for a short period before separating.

2008 - August 2010

Kat Von D and Nikki Sixx seemed to have developed a strong relationship in 2008, but eventually broke up two years later. Nikki later posted a statement on his MySpace page, which read, "I want to wish Katherine nothing but the best in her life. She has loved and inspired the hell outta me and I know I have done the same for her in these almost two years we ruled the earth together. We are taking a break from our relationship for reasons that we will choose to keep personal. You won't find me saying a bad word about her and I don't believe vice versa, we have too much wonderful history together to ever deface that."

Fellow reality star Jesse James and Kat Von D caused uproar when the two were spotted snuggling at the Palms Casino Resort's N9NE restaurant while Jesse was in a relationship with actress Sandra Bullock. The two later split in October, following circling rumors that Von D was only dating him to get back at her ex Nikki Sixx.

In January 2011, Kat Von D and Jesse James announced their engagement in People magazine following Jesse's controversial divorce with Sandra Bullock, but officially broke ties in September.

Kat Von D and DJ Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) began dating in mid-September after meeting at a party, but broke up two months later. Von D took to twitter to confirm their break-up, saying, "Man, Can't say I didn't give it my best... Man, I sure was wrong but at least he made it a no-brainer to break that off. Lesson Learned."

Deadmau5 later expressed his thoughts on the relationship via Twitter, stating, "It happened too fast, I lost my balance and fell into a familiar dark place that im having difficulty with... She deserves someone stronger."
