Karate Kid

Sometimes, a remake can be awesome. Other times, the original was so good, it should be left where it belongs: in our memories and on a VHS somewhere in the back of my storage closet.

The latest to jump on the remake bandwagon is Dirty Dancing, the 1987 film starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.

The remake will reportedly incorporate songs from the original and will be directed by the original choreographer, Kenny Ortega. But this is Dirty Dancing, a movie that’s iconic for so many of us. And with the death of Patrick Swayze, it’s become legendary. A remake will never come close to the original, so why try?

If Hollywood is known for anything, it’s—well—sex and drug scandals. But also, unnecessary remakes. Here are ten of them that didn’t need to happen.
The Karate Kid remake was such a success that they are considering a sequel.

The franchise starring Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith grossed nearly $300 million worldwide so it's no surprise that the studio is already moving on another one.

THR is reporting that Kung Fu Panda writers Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff will be writing the next installment and chances are that the adorable Jaden Smith will return to kick some more ass.

Being a success must be in the Smith genes. Everyone in that family is hard working and extremely talented.
Don't MISS out on Breaking News!
Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith proved that the Smith gene is full of good luck and good talent.

The Karate Kid remake made a killing at the box office over the weekend. Who said remakes aren't as good as the originals? Jaden took on that role and made it very interesting!

The remake of the 80's classic made $56 million over the weekend. It beat another classic, "The A-Team" which made $26 million.

"Karate Kid" had a budget of only $40 million and already made more than what they spent on production, so the studio must be happy!

We're just wondering if our luck will change if we change our last name to Smith? Just a thought.

This was a no-brainer! Jackie Chan has joined the cast of the Karate Kid remake, called Kung Fu Kid.

He’ll play the wise kung-fu master Mr. Han, who teaches the young boy everything he knows. Will Smith’s son Jaden stars in the film, and has already been prepping for the role in Beijing.

Also joining the cast is Taraji P. Henson, who plays the single mother. Ken Stovitz, one of Will Smith’s production partners at Overbrook Entertainment, said at the ceremony Saturday that Kung Fu Kid will be set in modern-day Beijing.

China Film Group chairman Han Sanping said shooting will last three months.

Based on the cast, this could be a really great remake! We can’t imagine it holding a candle to the original, but having Taraji P. Henson on board gives us hope!
We’re glad the original Karate Kid agrees with us on this one! Ralph Macchio has slammed the fact that producers are remaking the 80s classic. He thinks a remake of the original won’t be a hit with audiences because so many classic movies have been ruined by remakes.

He tells MTV.com, "It feels pretty good that some people are pretty angry that they're trying to remake The Karate Kid. It feels good that the public feels you don't touch certain things. Some times you go back to that, and probably shouldn't. From my personal view, the filling the void of what Mr. Miyagi was - and the magic of that character - is going to be the toughest task. I (also) don't know where the romantic story-arc goes (with Smith's Daniel) at that age."

That’s a good point! Also there’s just never going to be anything like the original. There’s something special about cheesy 80s movies with bad camera angles and weird edits. It’s what we grew up on! Having Will Smith step in as producer with Jayden starring in it seems too sensational, like the whole movie will be over the top.

Poor Ralph Macchio. But at least his career isn’t completely dead. He was just in Sundance last week promoting his upcoming movie, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead.

The Karate Kid remake business is not sitting well with us. Why mess with a classic? But every great 80s movie is being butchered these days, so it was to be expected.

As Hollyscoop previously reported, Will Smith’s son Jayden is rumored to be reprising the role that Ralph Macchio made famous. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it as well. And now we hear Mr. Miyagi will be played by Jackie Chan.

According to The Insider, Chan is in final negotiations to join the cast, and be Jaden’s mentor.

If the remake has to be done, we’re glad Jackie Chan is at least taking on the role. We couldn’t think of a better person for the role. He definitely brings in the box office numbers. Filming will begin this summer in Beijing. What do you think of Chan as Mr. Miyagi?

We hoped that this remake wouldn’t happen. The original is just so good! How could Raplh Macchio be replaced?! But this is the era we live in. All the ideas are taken, and with futuristic effect houses, studios are all about taking something old and making it look incredible. Usually they’re able to, but there’s something about 80s movies, even with their bad acting and poor editing, that we love!

Jaden Smith, so of Will Smith, will be playing the Karate Kid. The remake is being written by Chris Murphy, who says he wants to stay close to the original script.

Jaden is really proving himself as a good little actor! He was great in Pursuit of Happyness, so we’ll have to see how he measures up.

Wax on…Wax off! Will Smith’s son Jaden is in talks to be the new Karate Kid! The original Karate Kid starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. Hilary Swank then followed in 1994 as The Next Karate Kid.

Smith confirms, "I met with a couple of people in China. We're looking to potentially shoot in China."

I LOVED Karate Kid so I'll definitely be watching this movie! =r>
