Yesterday afternoon, completely out of the blue, Nike’s website dropped Kanye West’s Air Yeezy 2 “Red October” sneakers by way of a single tweet.
It’s a big deal for fans of Kanye and Nike considering these Red Octobers are like the Groudon of Nikes (for those of you who couldn’t care less about shoes, but love Pokémon).
With no other warning or promotion leading up to their sale, the model—which retailed for $245—sold out within 11 minutes.
This is the shoe:
Given the shoe’s exclusivity and all the drama Kanye’s been airing about his contentious relationship with the sneaker juggernaut, combined with the rapper’s own enormous celebrity, the Air Yeezy 2’s rapid sale doesn’t really come as a surprise.
The amount they are getting flipped for on eBay, however, is. One seller from the U.K. has already received 84 bids for a pair and it’s up to £10,000,000, or in U.S. currency: $16.4 million!
Collector’s item or just crazy?
