I for one, am very happy about this! Turns out Ricky Gervais wasn’t fired by the Hollywood Foreign Press after all!
He took to his
blog to defend his jokes during the show. Hollyscoop knew Ricky was ready to pick on celebs at the Globes, but one star he wasn’t interested in was Justin Bieber!
“I’m not going to make fun of him…" Gervais told Hollyscoop EXCLUSIVELY.
Find out why by watching the video below, and in the meantime, here’s what Ricky said in response to getting fired by the HFPA:
Ricky Gervais Fired from Future Globes Hosting
“Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn't move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.
All the same conspiracy theories as last year too... "So and so was offended"... "hasn't been invited back yet"... exactly the same as last time. "Paul McCartney was furious"... no he wasn't. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.
Why do people have to embellish? They're allowed to say they hated it. They're allowed to say they didn't find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?”
No One Knew Ricky Gervais Would Go So Far With Jokes
One celeb who did get his diaper in a bunch was Hugh Hefner, who tweeted in response to Gervais’ joke about him, "It's ironic that living with 3 young girls prompted a hit TV show, but marrying one prompts humor. Age is still just a number."
Ricky added, “Actually, I see what they mean. Boring. So here's what really happened. Bruce Willis and Sly Stallone started a fight with me but Alec Baldwin and Mark Walberg stepped in and helped me out. That's what happened.”
I love that Gervais honestly doesn’t give a sh*t, and says exactly what’s on his mind. He’s like a publicist’s nightmare, but it’s pretty refreshing to see!
Hollyscoop spoke with Gervais right before the show, and he seemed amped up to make fun of the American The Office star Steve Carell…even though he was talking so fast that he mispronounced his last name!
“Steve is always on my sights,” Ricky said, adding, “Anyone who’s misbehaved the whole year, and anyone thinner and more attractive than me.”
When we asked if Bieber was on his target list, Gervais said, “I’m not going to make fun of him…he’s only ten.”
You’re safe for now, Bieber! But you better believe once his voice changes, he’ll be on the target list! Check out our EXCLUSIVE coverage with Ricky below!
