Justin Bieber is known for his philanthropic endeavors. Whether he’s writing giant checks to elementary schools or visiting sick patients in hospitals, the boy always makes good on his promise to #giveback.

After the hashtag #BieberForCrystal started trending in Canada over the weekend, Bieber noticed and wondered who Crystal was?

Crystal is 18-year-old Crystal Montgomery, a Canadian girl who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a malignant bone tumor, in her left shoulder. She’s lost 30 pounds and all her hair from

chemotherapy treatments and is a huge Bieber fan.

Her best friend Joana Antunes thought that a visit from Bieber would be just the thing to cheer up her sick friend so she tried to contact Bieber’s management team. When that didn’t work, she started tweeting about it.

Joana and another friend started the hashtag and by early Monday morning all of Bieber’s Canadian fans made #BieberForCrystal a trending topic.

Bieber finally notice and tweeted:

"now off to do something that matters. #giveback"

Then, without telling Crystal, Bieber waltzed through the doors of her hospital room.

“She cried happy tears and was in shock to see him,” Joanna told the Edmonton Journal.

Bieber stayed and chatted with her for about 15 minutes before having to head out to his sold out tour stop that night.

“Justin Bieber made a point of coming into the hospital quietly and respectfully without disrupting other staff and patients, and he sure brought a lot of joy into the room,” said a source at the hospital.

After the visit Bieber tweeted:

"Thanks to the fans for always pointing me on the right path."
