Justin Bieber Street Sign Stolen

Justin Bieber Street Sign Stolen

When you make an eleven-year old kid mayor, you should have pretty low expectations.

Unless that kid is Caroline Gonzalez.

Gonzales won a Facebook contest to become mayor of Forney, Texas for one day. And her first order of business? Changing the name of a street from “Main Street” to “Justin Bieber Way”.

Hell yes. That act alone has probably made her the politician with the highest approval rating right now.

"I just really like Justin Bieber, and I thought it would be cool if we had a street in our town named after him,” Gonzales said of her decision. “I thought it was pretty cool, and if Justin Bieber was actually here, I'd probably faint."

But before she could also set up “iCarly Boulevard” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody Drive,” a terrible thing happened.

The sign was stolen.

Forney’s all grown-up mayor, Darren Rozell, said the motivation behind the theft is not yet known.

Uh, maybe it has something to do with the fact that Justin Bieber is like, so totally cool and cute? Hello, Rozell! Get your head out of your ass.

“We don’t know if it was really a crazed fan who decided they had to have it or what,” he told CNN. Yeah, I said CNN.

The sign cost the city of Forney $20. Great. We’re going to have to raise the debt ceiling again.

The sign was only supposed to stay up during Gonzalez’s one day stint, but after the town’s residents praised her decision, Forney officials decided to keep it up.

We need more people like Caroline Gonzalez in office. No word on whether they will replace the sign with “Justin Bieber Way”, or revert to the original, “Main Street.” Blah. Main Street. So cliché.

The Biebs isn’t the only celebrity to have a street named after him, of course. In May, the Mayor of Chicago named a street “Oprah Winfrey Way”. Oprah’s production company, Harpo Studios, is based in L.A. but was founded in the windy city.

And Los Angeles, of course, has a ton of celebrity street signs: Bob Hope Drive, Valentino Place, Hepburn Circle…the list goes on.

Most of the stars are, you know, legends and stuff. Not tween pop stars.

Conversely, actor Charles Bronson got his stage name from Bronson Avenue in Los Angeles. But none of those examples quite compare to a little podunk street in Forney, Texas being named “Justin Bieber.”
