Will.i.am says Justin Bieber needs more "relationship drama" to make him successful.
The Black Eyed Peas producer has been working with Justin on his new album and talks to Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM and says Bieber needs to "hurt" in order to have future success, "He's gonna hurt. He's going to go through relationship drama [and that will make him successful]" says Will.i.am.
I think we forget that Bieber is only 17, how much drama does he really need? When I was 17 my only drama was deciding whether I should buy an ugly prom dress from Wet Seal or an uglier prom dress from Forever 21.
But Will.i.am thinks only the best artists became the best because of their pain. "Justin as an artist has to fight. Michael Jackson fought, Prince fought, the ones that stood around for a long time are the ones that are always fighting for something."
The way Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's teen romance appears in the media, everything seems fine. I'm sure their only drama is who's more popular and which limo service should they use for the Teen Choice Awards.
Will.i.am is just looking out for Bieber and doesn't want him to only have 15 minutes of fame, "We know the ones that get comfortable and then their career is short, 'Oh I remember that one song he had, that was cool,'" says Will.
Oddly enough, Vanilla Ice said the exact same thing about Bieber a few weeks ago when he compared Bieber's career to that of his own.
Vanilla Ice told the Huffington Post, "You know, then something else new will come along and he'll [Bieber] be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it's going to be entertaining to watch.”
Sadly, the comparisons between Bieber and Vanilla are numerous. They are both white, they both wear snapback hats, and they both aren't that good at rapping.
So Will.i.am has a solution for Bieber to avoid going the route of predecessors like Vanilla, he tells Seacrest, "I want to get Justin Bieber into writing his own music and producing his own songs."
Will.i.am is just trying to emphasize that true artists need heartache in order to write good music. What, are "Teenage vacation" and "Groped at 17" not good possibilities for Justin Bieber song titles?
