Uh-oh. Things are getting pretty serious between these two.
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber had an epic all-weekend date, and apparently, they kicked it off by adopting a dog on Friday. They stopped by Winnipeg animal rescue D’Arcy’s A.R.C. and checked out their canine selection.
"They spent a lot of time with the puppies," the rescue's chief executive officer, D'Arcy Johnston, told PEOPLE. "I was told that [Selena] was missing the dogs that she has at home."
Selena already has five rescue dogs back home. And while she might not get to see them much because she’s on tour, I seriously doubt they care. They’re probably sleeping in cashmere dog beds and eating filet mignon.
During Selena and Justin’s trip to the animal shelter, the two spent a lot of time with a 10 week-old husky they ended up falling in love with. That’s it. That’s our baby!
"I wasn't expecting her to adopt a dog while she was on tour and has a busy schedule,” Johnston continued.
So technically, this is Selena’s dog. But Justin’s still a stepdad. Or something. I don’t know.
According to Johnston, Selena went through the standard screening process. Which is, apparently, a random person coming in, pointing at the dog they want and then leaving with it right then and there. Nothing at all like the standard screening process of any other animal shelter. Then again, this is Canada, and they probably don’t have the problem of assh-les picking up animals to jumpstart their dog fighting ring.
Gomez named her new baby Baylor.
"Baylor probably would have had a bad life or a very short life," Johnston says. "But he got rescued and brought to our shelter and is now going to live a very good life."
While some celebrities like to pay upwards of ten grand to get a pure bred shaking Chihuahua that can fit in their purse, you gotta commend celebs like Selena who give homes to abandoned animals.
Alyssa Milano, known for having a soft spot for animals, found out about an abandoned, two-legged mutt named Scooby-Roo. Not only did Milano get Roo a custom made cart so he could walk, she also invited him into her home.
And Oprah Winfrey has adopted a couple pooches herself. She took home a cocker spaniel from PAWS Chicago and then adopted another, who ended up dying of Parvo. While sad, at least the pooch spent his last days living comfortably instead of in the confines of an animal shelter.
Lauren Conrad adopted back in 2008. She wrote on her Myspace page (yep, I told you it was 2008): “On Monday, I got a puppy from the pound. She is the cutest puppy ever! Her name is Chloe. She is a lab/shepherd mix.”
