Justin Bieber and his signature hairdo have grown up right before our eyes. It’s hard to believe it was only five years ago that the Biebs was posting songs on YouTube.
These days, Justin is one of pop music’s biggest stars, complete with two world tours, a wax statue, and a horde of die-hard fans. (In fact, his fans go beyond die-hard. If you don’t like Bieber, they’ll kill you, too!)
Cool fact about Bieber: He had 86 shows last year and after every show he visited a sick child for 'Make A Wish'. Bieber’s only demand was no cameras should be allowed.
Today Justin celebrates his 18th birthday, and to celebrate, here’s a timeline of Bieber’s rise to fame.
2007: The YouTube Years: Bieber’s mom uploads a YouTube video of him singing at a local talent competition. After getting a positive response, Justin begins putting up more videos of himself singing and playing guitar on YouTube. He gains a small fanbase.
2007: Meeting Scooter: Later that year, marketing executive Scooter Braun clicked on one of Bieber’s 2007 videos, purely by accident. Scooter contacted Justin’s mom.
2008: Bieber Gets Ushered: In 2008, Scooter sets up a meeting between Justin and R&B singer Usher. Impressed, Usher signs Bieber to Raymond Braun Media Group, and then to Island Records. Bieber moves to Atlanta.
May 2009: Good Girl Gone Bieber: On May 20, 2009, Bieber meets Rihanna, his crush, at an Island Def Jam showcase in New York City.
October 2009: 'Today': Bieber makes a career milestone when he performs live on the ‘Today’ show.
January 2010: GRAMMY$: On January 31, 2010, Justin makes his first Grammy appearance, alongside Ke$sha.
February 2010: Oh, Baby: On February 19, 2010, Justin released the music video for his hit, Baby. It features guest appearances from Drake, Jasmine V and Ludacris. It becomes the most watched YouTube video of all time and has over 425 million views.
2010: My World Tour: Justin launches his first international tour which includes stops in France, Asia and Germany.
March 2010: BET: On March 22, 2010, Justin makes his first appearance on BET’s ‘106 & Park.’ He later earns a nod from the BET Awards.
April 2010: Biebermania: Justin causes riots in Australia when he makes appearances in the country.
December 2010: Young Love: Rumors that Bieber is dating fellow pop star Selena Gomez begin surfacing.
January 2011: Golden Globes: Bieber makes his first appearance at the Golden Globes, presenting ‘Best Animated Film’ alongside Hailee Steinfeld.
February 2011: Big Screen Star: Bieber’s first biopic, Never Say Never is released in 3D. On February 27, he attends the Vanity Fair Oscar Party with Gomez.
November 2011: Under the Mistletoe: Bieber releases his first holiday album, which is also his second studio album.
February 22, 2012: Bieber announces via Twitter that the first single off his third studio album, Believe, will be released in March 2012.
