Do Something Awards Celebrity Nominations Announced!
It’s time to give an enthusiastic head nod to the stars that give back.

DoSomething.org and VH1 have announced their list of A-list celebrities who have been nominated for the 2012 Do Something Awards. The awards name the top generous celebs from categories ranging from “Athlete” to “Comedian” to “Movie Star” to “Reality Show.”

It’s events like this that remind us that some of our favorite celebrities are great people while out of the spotlight too.

“This is the show that recognizes famous people for what they do, not what they look like or how well they sing," said DoSomething.com’s CEO, Nancy Lublin.

Justin Bieber scored himself two nominations for raising funds for schools. The 18-year-old teen star recently donated $100,000 to Whitney Elementary, a low-income school in Las Vegas.

The “Boyfriend” singer’s girlfriend, Selena Gomez, got herself a couple noms for her work with the United Nations Children’s Fund (aka UNICEF). Gomez was appointed ambassador in 2009, making her the youngest ambassador of the humanitarian organization ever.

Along with other groups, the Do Something Awards features a unique category for charitable couples. Getting nods on this list include recently engaged Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, The Amazing Spiderman duo Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, and even ex-couple Katy Perry and Russell Brand.

Nothing like some quality charity to reunite a warring pair…

But just because they’re getting noticed for being helpful together, doesn’t mean that they’re excluded as individuals. All of the previously mentioned lovers are nominated for categories on their own.

In addition to the stars, the Do Something Awards will give $100,000 to a young world-changer 25 and under for his or her project.

And, despite the big names being dropped, to VH1 president Tom Calderone the real effort of the event is to highlight “young people and social change.”

“No matter who wins, we are really here in celebration of the amazing young people who have accomplished so much,” he said.

The Do Something Awards will be hosted by the funny guys from the TV show "New Girl" and airs August 21st at 9pm on VH1.
