For all you anxious teens out there compulsively googling “Justin Bieber Selena Gomez” to see if the couple split yet, you might just have gotten your big break.
Selena Gomez posted an interesting tweet on May 15, highlighting a song by Danish singer-songwriter Aura Dione. The song of choice is called “Friends” and features more than a few less-than-subtle references to a break up.
“Free, free to be myself / Free to need some time / So I'm reaching baby, out / When I'm lonely in the crowd / When the silence gets too loud…” the lyrics of the song read.
To add more fuel to the rumored breakup, Justin Bieber showed up to the Billboard Awards on Sunday, not with Gomez, but with Cady Eimer, a high school student from Virginia.
Bieber extended the invitation to Eimer after she had invited him to prom, which he could not attend.
“I couldn't make it [to prom] so I said I need you to fly to the Billboard Awards and you can be my date,” Bieber previously told People.
The fantasy prom king then forgot to mention Gomez in his acceptance speech for the “Top Social Artist” award at the event. A minor omission, but when everyone’s already whispering you got to be careful, Biebs!
Whatever’s going on, one thing’s for sure: Selena isn’t singing “Boyfriend” today!
“And even if I never forget you baby / Tonight I'm gonna let your memory baby / Go, always said I know,” the lyrics continue.
Gomez is currently in Bulgaria for the rest of the week where she is finishing up filming a remake of the 1972 remake The Getaway with Ethan Hawke.
