Joy Behar. biography
Born Josephina Victoria Occhiuto on October 7, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, Joy Behar began making a living as an English teacher after graduating from the State University of Ne York (SUNY) with a master’s degree in English education in 1968.
Following an ectopic pregnancy that almost killed her in 1979, Joy decided to pursue a career in comedy and entered the entertainment industry as a receptionist at the morning show Good Morning America.
Joy started appearing in comedy clubs around 1980, before earning her own series Way Off Broadway on Lifetime in 1987. She began to gain recognition as an up-and-coming comedian after appearing in well-received films such as the crime comedy Cookie (1989), the drama This Is My Life (1992) and Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) in addition to hosting one of WABC’s radio shows.
In 1997, Joy gained immediate popularity for her quick wit when she landed a co-hosting position on ABC’s talk show The View alongside Barbara Walters, Meredith Viera and Star Jones. The show went on to boost Joy to stardom, earning the ladies an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Talk Show Host from 1998 to 2004, prior to winning the award in 2009.
Later that year, Joy announced she would be hosting her own talk show The Joy Behar Show (2009-12) prior to launching her monthly advice column in Good Housekeeping magazine, titled “Tell Me About It.”
Joy’s other film projects include, the comedies Madea Goes to Jail (2009), Hall Pass (2011) and Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) as well as her TV series Joy Behar: Say Anything! (2012).
In addition to her on-screen appearances, Joy authored the nonfiction book Joy Shtick: or What Is the Existential Vacuum and Does It Come with Attachments? (1999) and the children’s book Sheetzucacapoopoo: My Kind of Dog (2006).
On March 11, 2013, Joy Behar revealed her top 10 reasons for leaving The View:

Joy Behar Husband, Boyfriend & Dating History Timeline
1965 – 1981
Joy was married to college professor Joe Behar from 1965 to 1981, whom have one child together, daughter Eve (b. 1970).
She became a grandmother in February 2011, after Eve gave birth to her son Luca.
1982 – Present
After splitting from Joe Behar, Joy began dating Steve Janowitz. The two went on to get married on August 11, 2011 and currently live in Manhattan, New York. She later opened up on why she waited so long to get married in which she revealed on Rachel Ray, "I waited until all the parents were dead. So I have no in-laws at all. He has none and I have none. 'Cause marriage is mostly about in-laws, I find. They always want you to visit them and come for lasagna."
