Peta Hates Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is the latest celebrity to be singled out by Peta. Meyers' co-star in his latest film, accidentally told reporters that he ate dog!

Radha Mitchell says they were out shooting The Children of Huang Sui in rural China, and the restaurants served things you wouldn't see in the states.

She says, "The challenge was ordering lunch and getting chicken claws, just these weird things that you don't expect and you're not used to so you're constantly adjusting. Jonathan did the dog's meat. We were in some restaurant and there was dog meat on the menu and there was someone next to us just sitting there with their Chihuahua in a handbag.

"I was thinking, 'That could've been dessert.'"

So naturally, Peta is pissed! They can't believe he would eat man's best friend! Would you?

Give him a break!!!! PETA's issue should be with China, not with someone visiting their country. Looking forward to the movie he filmed in China... The Children of Huang Shi.

I think that, PETA is a bully and should chill out. I do not eat dog myself, but to each his own. I don't see where a crime was committed in this case.

Can't give him a break on this one. He says his favorite animal is the dog. I don't think he meant TO EAT. Just another little tidbit coming out about this guy that makes you stop and go . . . hmmmmmm.

With news today, making big deal of everything. So, what do what ever the hell is wanted. That is what so great about he is upfront & I think he couldn't care less about it...

Rod ~ I respectfully disagree ~ Jonathan is an actor and as much as he wants to have his own life, a part of him is open to public view ~ so he can't do what he wants without consequences. If he loses his fans because they disagree with what he does, it costs him work in the future because he loses out on public draw. A good example of that is Tom Cruise. He now has to work at getting the public to love him the way they did before. Another point: Why is his co-star, a relatively unknown actress before this movie, coming out with her "slip of the tongue" just before the premiere of the movie? My previous comment may not seem like I am a fan of Jonathan, but I am ~~ a huge fan. And, I want to see him succeed. He needs to talk to his PR agent about damage control before PETA makes this bigger than it is. I'd like to say more, but this a forum and it has it's limitations.

I wanted to add this postscript and let Rod know that he made a valid point when he said that Jonathan can "do whatever the hell is wanted". The only provision I would make is that if Jonathan is going to do whatever he wants to do, he should be careful to do it so that it doesn't end up as bad publicity. In this case, Jonathan's co-star's careless statement has cast a bad light on him. He'll recover from it I'm sure. But this is a lesson learned that in Hollywood you trust no one.

I am appalled that Rhys Meyers ate dog meat. Dogs and cats are treated brutally and suffer horrifically in this evil trade. He should know better. For Animal Liberation.

Radha Mitchell has no news for herself & had to get attention by other people. If she appeared at the movie premieres, she might not say that to the press.

If you are talking from a vegetarian point of view, then i totally get it. Meat is murder, and i myself is a bloody murderer, shame on me and jonathan. But if you are not, then shut up hypocrite. Are you assuming a dog's life is more vulable than a pig??

blinkonce
Well yes, actually they are. When was the last time you saw a pig guide a blind person across a busy street ... help the deaf to be aware of things like the phone ringing . . . rescue people from collapsed buildings like they did when 9/11 happened . . . take down a criminal . . . or for that matter, take a bullet in the line of duty. You should have thought about that question before you posed it.

ahhh yeah and they did this because they wanted to?...yeah right...a dog..is just an animal and dont get me wrong i had a really good dog once but..to judge a person based on action..rediculous! If we all did that everyone would have sumthin on them...and what if a regular person ate dog? No one would care..but just cuz hes famouse "SHIznit! he ate dog,hes a phsyco!" well oh well...i still like him.

Blinkonce
lol julie. That's why I avoid Asian buffets. I like him too. The point is he's in the public eye. I never said psycho. Who said psycho?? He's gotta be careful. Anything could affect his career ... even unknown actresses who want to draw attention to themselves telling what other people did. I've tried to put myself in his place but the haunting vision of adoring puppy eyes keeps me from going there. Maybe because I have 3 dogs. He's a good guy with good intentions. As John (uh Rod) said, he does what he wants. I get that, and that's o.k. Just don't invite me to lunch if your dog is missing.
