An insider says producers are demanding Weiner cut three minutes from the show so they can sell more advertising time. Hello, irony!
“Weiner is being completely screwed by AMC,” a source tells The Daily. “Nobody would have heard of AMC if not for Matt Weiner and ‘Man Men.’ But they will not renew the show unless he accedes to all of their demands.”
Who are they, QVC? They might as well just replace the show with one long infomercial.
AMC is also reportedly asking Weiner to get rid of two characters so they can save money from two actor’s salaries, to “show how profitable they are,” says the source.
“Weiner just may walk away from the show, and the AMC execs are threatening to go ahead with ‘Mad Men’ without Weiner, but that would be like doing ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ without Larry David.”
Which would be prettaaaaay senseless.
But it looks like the show is safe for at least another season. After cancellation rumors surfaced, AMC released a public statement, saying “While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”
Hey, at least it’s not in danger of cancellation because Jon Hamm thinks he’s a warlock.

We know him today as the successful lead actor on Mad Men, and more recently, the film The Town. But Hamm admits life wasn’t always so easy in LA, and he struggled to pay his bills on time for years.
He recalls one time when he was dropped by his agent and considered quitting acting. He tells the mag, “I thought: 'I could go home, I could teach…' I had already taught [drama at John Burroughs High School in Missouri] and yes, I think I probably was a good teacher."
Hamm even says he wasn’t a frontrunner to play Don Draper in Mad Men. "I was on the bottom of everyone's list,” Hamm admits. "I really really really wanted to do it and really really really responded to the character. And really really felt like I had a handle on it and fit the part well, for whatever reason. I knew it was an enormous risk for the network to put all their chips on… certainly no celebrity of any kind. No name to promote."
All turned out well in the end, but that’s not the only struggle Hamm has dealt with—he lost both his parents by the age of 20: his mother at age 10, his father 10 years later.
"To lose a parent at 10 – which is young, though not unprecedented – it means you understand, at a very early age, what permanence is,” he says.
“I struggled with chronic depression. I was in bad shape. I knew I had to get back in school and back in some kind of structured environment and… continue."
Hamm says he worked a lot and did extensive therapy to get through it. "I did do therapy and antidepressants for a brief period, which helped me,” he says. “Which is what therapy does: it gives you another perspective when you are so lost in your own spiral, your own bullshit. It helps.
And honestly? Antidepressants help! If you can change your brain chemistry enough to think: 'I want to get up in the morning; I don't want to sleep until four in the afternoon. I want to get up and go do my shit and go to work and…' Reset the auto-meter, kick-start the engine!"
Jon’s engine is definitely working overtime now! He has so much now, but it came to him late in life, which makes us realize how hard he actually worked for it! We’re thankful he stuck it out through the tough times and stayed in Hollywood, because no one could be Don Draper but him!

He looks smoking hot on the cover of the October issue, and it only gets better once you start flipping those pages. Make sure to pick up a copy of Details, but in the meanwhile here are some highlights from the article!
On avoiding the paparazzi:
"I'm old, I'm boring. I usually just duck the paparazzi. It's literally someone waiting for you to pick your nose or scratch yourself. I'm sorry, I scratched my balls—who doesn't do that? You're really going to run that story? What the fuck?! Everyone has picked their nose at one point in their life too."
On trying his hand at acting in high school:
“I never minded standing up and looking like an idiot, which is tremendously helpful in this industry.”
On being glad he wasn't an overnight success:
After years of struggling to make it in Hollywood, the feels lucky that his “overnight success” took as long as it did saying, “Absolutely, I don’t know how the Twilight kids or Miley Cyrus handle it. You make one bad decision and people in Thailand Twitter about it.”
On his new movie The Town:
“It’s almost like an old Hollywood movie. It’s got a love story, it’s got a crime element, but it’s very much for adults,” says Hamm. “There’s not a lot of candy for the Twitter-obsessed. It just deals with adult shit- no werewolves, no vampires. Yet … they’re retooling it for 3D.”
On arriving in Hollywood in the nick of time:
“If you didn’t look 18 years old, you weren’t working. And I didn’t look 18 years old when I was 18. I always looked 10 years older than I was...L.A. represent opportunity. And, as has been proven over and over in the current media landscape, it doesn’t take much for them to put you on TV. If that’s all you want you can just be on The Bachelor or The Real Housewives or whatever show just wants oversized personalities, ridiculous behavior and zero dignity.”
On learning how to act:
“When you try to learn how to act, you approach it with respect. But if you just want to be famous…that’s not much different than porn. ‘I’m a movie star!’ Well, no, no you’re not. You’re a porn star, and that’s completely different.”
Matt Weiner on Jon's character Don Draper:
“One of the greatest pleasures of the job,” says Mad Men creator Matt Weiner, “has been to see Jon create the character of Don Draper. He’s smart, deep, and a natural leader. I can’t imagine making the show without him.”

Speaking with the magazine recently he talked about his struggle to become a respected actor. He said, "I drove around in a Volkswagen Rabbit I shared with one of my roommates, and it didn't have a roof. It doesn't rain much in LA, but when it did, it was utterly miserable."

Peggy, Betty, Don and Joan are all super glamourous on the cover, which has been photoshopped to the point where some limbs are missing and legs are deformed, but hey, as long as there's a great article on our favorite show, we're game.
In regards to the the hit AMC show, creator Matthew Weiner tells the magazine: “The big question the show is trying to answer through Don has to do with identity,” Weiner says. “Who am I? — It’s only the biggest theme in all of Western literature.”
“You have to be mentally acute for a significant period of time,” Jon Hamm adds, “and that becomes pretty draining.”
He adds about his real life, “I fly very low on the radar. Mark Twain said it: ‘I’d rather say nothing and be thought an idiot than open my mouth and remove all doubt.’ Another Missouri boy, Mark Twain. The petulant, sh–ty movie-star mentality - that burns out pretty quick.”
Mad Men picked up two Emmys on Sunday, one for Outstanding Drama and the other for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series, but someone who doesn't deserve an award is the person who photoshopped this cover shot.
January Jones' right leg is crooked and her left hand is missing, Elisabeth Moss' bust was expanded while her waist was shrunk down, Jon's right leg is missing. Christina Hendricks is the only one who isn't semi deformed from photoshop in the picture. And yes, those really are the size of her boobs!

Bond beat out time traveller The Doctor from ‘Doctor Who’ and computer game hero Super Mario into second and third place respectively.
Andrew Lubega, editor of AskMen UK, who compiled the survey, told BANG Showbiz: “For a number of decades now, James Bond has continued to be the ultimate symbol in cool for men worldwide – and in 2010 things are no different.
“He’s cool, confident, strong, sharply-dressed and not lacking in a gag or two. And if that wasn’t enough, in between killing off the bad guys he always finds time to shack up with a variety of gorgeous women.”
