Joel Madden was born in 1979 in Maryland. Madden attended La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. He was born in a middle class family and his father left the family when he was only 16 years old. He never saw his father after he walked out on his family and that is why he changed his name from “Combs” to his mother’s maiden name “Madden”.
Joel has a twin brother names Benji and two other siblings that his father left behind. That left a lot of financial problems for the family which lead to an eviction from their family home.
The Madden twins decided to start their own band when they went to a Beastie Boys concert. They teamed up with two school friends and started the band Good Charlotte.
Madden dated Hilary Duff for 3 years before breaking up and quickly moving on to a relationship with Nicole Richie.
Nicole and Joel are currently expecting a child together.
