Some celebs bulk up for a role, lose some weight, maybe brush up on a foreign accent..but other celebs take their movie roles VERY seriously. So seriously in fact that they do some weird sh-t, like bleaching their eyebrows, living in a homeless shelter, or refusing to eat food for months.

Check out the weird prep work that some celebs did to win a role.

Rooney Mara: In order to get the role of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Rooney Mara had to get her eyebrows bleached, her hair chopped off, and her lip, brow, nose, and nipple pierce all on the same day. She called the multiple piercing visit, “very intense.”
Remember when Joaquin Phoenix went bat shit crazy for a few months? Ya, it was all an act!

Casey Affleck admitted that the entire thing was just an act calling it "a terrific performance, it’s the performance of his career."

Magnolia Pictures released “I’m Still Here” last week and it almost went unnoticed. Partly because no one cared and knew it was a big act, and partly because it was really bad.

Roger Ebert said that move was “a sad and painful documentary that serves little useful purpose other than to pound another nail into the coffin.” Ouch!

“The reviews were so angry,” said Casey. Well, they wasted two hours of their time, wouldn't you be angry? "I never intended to trick anybody,” he added. “The idea of a quote, hoax, unquote, never entered my mind.”

"Virtually none of it was real," reports the New York Times. "Not even the opening shots, supposedly of Mr. Phoenix and his siblings swimming in a water hole in Panama. That, Mr. Affleck said, was actually shot in Hawaii with actors."

Did you happen to catch the flick? What did you think?

There’s been a lot of talk about Joaquin Phoenix’s documentay I’m Still Here. Is it real? Is it a hoax? He claims it’s legit, and Magnolia Pictures has released the first clip of the doc that comes out later this month.

In the scene, Phoenix arrives to P.Diddy’s home to inform him that he wants to be a rapper. Diddy pretty much shoots him down immediately and makes Joaquin look like a moron.

We still can’t tell if this is all an act! Decide for yourself…

The trailer for I'm Still Here, the documentary about Joaquin Phoenix's transition from the acting world to a career as an aspiring rapper was just released. We are so confused.

We still can't quite figure out if it's all a joke or if he's completely lost his marbles.

After watching the trailer, it seems like Joaquin couldn't handle the fame and he sort of lost it.

Wonder if it's all for the documentary or if he has really gone crazy. Is he gonna go around promoting the movie like a crazy person too?

The Casey Affleck directed movie hits theaters September 10!
Joaquin Phoenix wants everyone to know that he's still here!

The poster for the infamous Casey Affleck directed documentary was just released and Joaquin still looks like a mad man.

So what's this documentary about?

I’M STILL HERE is a striking portrayal of a tumultuous year in the life of internationally acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix.

With remarkable access, I’M STILL HERE follows the Oscar-nominee as he announces his retirement from a successful film career in the fall of 2008 and sets off to reinvent himself as a hip hop musician.

Sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, and always riveting, the film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads. Defying expectations, it deftly explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.

So did he really quit Hollywood or was it for the documentary? Guess we will find out when we watch the doc.

I’M STILL HERE opens in theaters September 10, 2010.

While 90% of the general public is convinced that Joaquin Phoenix's alleged "rap career" is a hoax, he has the support of his former Walk the Line co-star Reese Witherspoon.

Reese not only supports his new career, she's willing to "pick up" his new album when "it drops."

Reese, who won an Oscar for her role as Johnny Cash's second wife June Carter in the biopic, told Empire: "Sure, he's great. He's very musical obviously. He knows what he's doing."

She added, "I'm not following his rap career but I'm sure his album, whenever it hits the stores, whenever it 'drops', I'm going to go pick it up."

Gotta love her sense of humor about the subject! What do you guys think about his rap career? Is it all a hoax? Or do you think he's actually convinced he's a rapper?

For the last few months Joaquin Phoenix has been acting very strange. He grew out a beard and started acting a bit koo koo. He has since quit acting and is currently pursuing a career in rap music. Unfortunately for him, it's not going too well. He's had a few shows and lets just say he was too busy fighting with the fans then actually singing.

Many think it is all for a documentary which his brother-in-law Casey Affleck is shooting but the director for his latest flick, James Gray claims that it actually might be the real thing.

Gray told the Times of London: "It's like, Letterman was trying to get the movie out there, but the only thing that's out there now is a crazy person with a beard making a fool of himself."

He added, "Towards the end of the movie he kept saying, 'I'm tired . . . I don't want to act anymore . . . But I must say, I've seen him in his house, and he has his own recording studio . . . if this is a hoax, then it's the most elaborate thing that I have ever seen."

Why would Joaquin just throw away his career like that? Many would die to be in his position and he is just letting it go. Sad. Do you guys think it's still a hoax?

We’re not the only ones who think Joaquin Phoenix is off his rocker. His Two Lovers co-star Gwyneth Paltrow even doubts that he’s really switching careers to become a rapper.

During a junket for the film, Gwyneth told MTV UK, "I'm not a hundred percent sure that that's really going to be the case. I think that there might be some other explanation or something going on.

"I'm not quite sure what, but I can't believe that he's really going to quit forever to become a rapper. It seems odd."

She went on to give Joaquin advice that you can’t help but laugh at because it’s exactly what we’re all thinking. Gwyn says, "What advice would I give to Joaquin? Hmm ... maybe to go live in the projects for a few years to get some authenticity, maybe."

The truth hurts! Whatever’s going on with Joaquin right now, it’s odd. And it would make perfect sense that this whole thing is a hoax, especially after the incident in which he heckled a fan on stage!

Like Gwyneth, we’re all just confused and wondering when this little game of his will be over.

Joaquin Phoenix lived out his hip hop dream when he jumped into the crowd at LIV nightclub in Miami Wednesday night, only problem is he was rushing into the crowd to attack a fan.

Fans waited four hours at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel for Phoenix to perform. He eventually took the stage at 2am, mumbling the words to his songs over a backing track.

About two minutes into the performance someone near the stage screamed out a couple profanities and Phoenix responded. "We have an a**hole in the audience," reports our Hollyscoop correspondent.

The two exchanged a couple of words then Phoenix asked "Do you have a million dollars? I've got $1 million in the bank, what have you got."

The unknown man screamed out a couple more offensive words and before he was done "Phoenix was jumping into the crowd and headed straight in his direction."

The bouncers immediately came and split the two up. Who got the first blow is still up in the air, but one thing is for sure, Casey Affleck and his crew got every second of this "unplanned" fight on camera.

The bouncers eventually led Phoenix back up on the stage and then escorted him out of the nightclub, hopefully to seek some help.

While Phoenix insists his rap career is the real deal, it's a little hard to take him seriously when his brother-in-law Casey Affleck follows him around everywhere with a video camera. Affleck is said to be filming a Borat style documentary about Phoenix and his endeavors as a singer.

What do you guys think? Has he lost his marbles, or is he for real? Are we the ones being fooled by his "performance"?

Joaquin Phoenix has been making headlines in the past few months for his...strange behavior?

First he "quite acting" then he launched a rap career and went on Letterman and gave a really bizarre interview. So is he acting, is it drug use or is he mentally ill?

The chances of us actually figuring him out are slim to none, but his rep hit the roof when prominent Chicago psychiatrist Paul Dobransky claimed the actor was mentally ill and displayed "socially inappropriate behavior."

"There is something wrong. And it's beyond drug abuse," Dobransky told the Los Angeles Times.

"I was pretty offended by that skit at the Oscars," Dobransky says in the Times. "It struck me as potentially beating down on the mentally ill.

Joaquin's publicist Susan Patricola quickly slammed the psychiatrist releasing a statement that read, "How absolutely inappropriate for a doctor who has no personal interaction or relationship with someone to diagnose them. And to do so in a public forum."

She added, "Hope they spelled his name right. Another 15-minute 'expert' is born! Astonishingly inappropriate!"

We'll be the first to admit that he's behavior of late is strange, but for someone who has never treated him to publicly diagnose him as being mentally ill is really unprofessional.

The theory behind his behavior is that Joaquin and his brother in-law Casey Affleck are filming a Borat style production. What do you guys think? What's your theory?
