Jim Parsons. biography
Born James Joseph Parsons on March 24, 1973, in Houston, Texas, Jim Parsons knew he wanted be a professional actor after performing in his school's production of The Elephant's Child at the age of 6. While studying at the University of Houston, Jim appeared in over 17 plays within a 3-year span and went on to be accepted into the University of San Diego's prestigious, two-year classical theater course. After graduating in 2001, Jim moved to New York and began building his career in acting with several Off-Broadway productions and made his television debut in Ed (2002).
Following his initial on-screen appearance, Jim's career began to build off of various minor roles in well-received films, including the dramedy Garden State (2004) with Natalie Portman and Zach Braff, the drama Heights (2005) alongside Glenn Close, the dramedy 10 Items or Less (2006) with Jonah Hill and Morgan Freeman, and the comedy School for Scoundrels (2006) with Billy Bob Thornton.
Also during this time, Jim appeared in the TV series Judging Amy (2004 - 2005) and obtained a reoccurring role as Gayjacker in Fox's animated series Family Guy (2009 - 2012).
Jim's presence in Hollywood started to become more noticeable when he landed a role in the blockbuster comedy The Big Year (2011) alongside Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson, prior to appearing in the comedy musical The Muppets (2011) with Jason Segel and Amy Adams. A year later, Jim received his big break soon after earning a lead role as Sheldon Cooper in CBS' hit series The Big Bang Theory (2007 - 2013). His critically praised portrayal of an uptight, nerd scientist has earned Jim two Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (2009, 2012), two Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor (2010, 2011), the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a TV Series and a Golden Globe nomination in 2013.
Jim's most recent projects include, the animated adventure Happy Smekday! (2014) with Rihanna and the made-for-TV drama The Normal Heart (2014) alongside Julia Roberts.

Rumors that Jim was dating Todd Spiewak exploded when Jim included Todd amongst the names he thanked during his Emmy acceptance speech in September 2002. The boyfriend gossip, though not surprising, further drew attention after the National Enquirer released a story claiming the actor had proposed to Todd following his big Emmy feat.
The rumor went unnoticed for a couple of years until Jim admitted he was gay and in a 10-year relationship with an unidentified man during an interview with The New York Times on May 23, 2012.
